Branuss04 Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 Picture of your 15lb bass and I'll tell you everything Quote
Uncle Leo Posted July 26, 2009 Posted July 26, 2009 3 pieces and you still landed it? Screw the rod I want to know what line were you using? I want some! Quote
esoxangler Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 What brand of rod were you using? How much are you willing to put towards a new rod? If you can give us that information we can give you a few suggestions on something of better quality. Quote
coryjames Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 come on guys he said "he caught it"so it must be true : get something in a MH fast or extra fast.compre/mojo and up.then you'll be able to handle the 20lbers Quote
uicdent11 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Any rod would be capable of landing that fish without breaking. Sounds like the rod had a defect or the drag wasn't set properly. The later is probably not the case unless the fish ran like a freight train. My advice would be to get another M action spinning rod such as a Shimano Clarus. I think the craftsman ship will be better than the Mitchell. If you wanted something a little more expensive then you have several options. You probably do not need 15# line on a spinning reel either. Try something in the 6-10# range and I am sure you will be satisfied. Quote
berkleyfan81 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 I kinda guess the weight it felt like a 15 lb bass and the rod i used was a gander mtn brand called guide series competitor graphite 6'0 medium action spinning rod and theline was the new trilene 15Lb test( moss green ) fireline braid and the bait I used was the Rage Tail strike king Rage Lobster ( double header ) color and it was rigged texas rig . So thank for the comments trying to get better stuff to catch these and the pics are the same but different lighting . Quote
berkleyfan81 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 the cost i want to spend $ 60 - 70 I kinda need 2 spinning rod broken one rod last weekend too . Quote
berkleyfan81 Posted July 27, 2009 Author Posted July 27, 2009 the fishing rod was a christmas present last 2 yrs ago it was a great rod i like it but i guess it wasn't good for the large weight . Quote
uicdent11 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Shimano Clarus should fit the bill. Get one 6'6 MH Fast and the other 6'8 MXF. Quote

esoxangler Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I would suggest looking for one quality rod, and not two so-so rods, and spend the $60 to $70 on that. Get an all around rod that can work for multiple applications. (IMO I would go with a Medium Power with a fast action.) Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I just recently picked up a 6'6" mojo bass st croix. Its m/f action and i have caught a few good size bass through weeds hauling at least 10lb worth of lilly pads and junk with the bass and havn't had any issues. I am using a baitcaster however with braid 50#..... If you are using spinning have you ever tried braid. 30# should do the trick for spinning and as far as having a good rod breaking like that either your doing something really wrong or def a defect in the rod. A lot of guys even on here are fishing ultralights even and pulling in big bass, just all in how you work it and what not. small rods will pull in monsters just takes finnesse and patients to work the fish out. Super User Dan: Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 In your price range I would look at the Berkley Lightning Rod or another house brand rod from Gander Mountain, Bass Pro, or Cabelas. BTW, just so you know, it would take about 5 of those fish to weigh 15lbs. Try to get a digital scale. They only cost like $20 and they will help you get much better at judging how much fish weigh. Uncle Leo Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 3 pieces and you still landed it? Screw the rod I want to know what line were you using? I want some! After the photo was posted I have a better understanding, looks about 3 pounds to me but a nice fish. Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Surely that's not the fish that you're saying weighs 15#. I personally would like to see the 15# fish, did you get pics? How about the rod I would like to see pics of that too. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 I kinda guess the weight it felt like a 15 lb bass... Get a BPS or Cabela's house brand, 6 1/2' or 7' MHF ON SALE! If the rod breaks, they will replace it for you. 8-) Quote
