Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 Dick's opened here a few months ago and yesterday I made my first trip. Beautiful state of the art store with 2 levels, fishing upstairs. I was very impressed with the inventory, especially the items that cater to my style of fishing, and the way the department was laid out. Prices for the most part seemed decent or at least competitive. Quote
underwraps1 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Are you talking about the store in West Palm? If so, yes, it is a nice store. They have good deals every now and then, a good inventory and they're competitively priced. Quote
mrlitetackle Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 ive always wanted to check one out myself, but there arent any near my area here in orlando...... im stuck with a nearby BPS....(but thats not so bad, right? ) Quote
aarogb Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 My local Dick's is also two story; fishing is upstairs and everything is else is downstairs. The have a lot of stuff other Dick's don't have. I too also thought the prices were pretty comparable. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 24, 2009 Author Super User Posted July 24, 2009 The store on Southern and 441, I preferred it over BPS, the store is much easier to navigate thru. Quote
vatech Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I LOVE DSG! My nearby store is about 3 minutes away and I stop by whenever I can think of an excuse. Golf and fishing side by side? Is this heaven? My store has everything baitwise that I would want but it lacks a variety of high quality reels and rods. The nicest they have (freshwater-wise) would be a single curado e7 and a single revo STX in their display case. Everything else is low end combos. Also the help is pretty lousy in the Lodge. If you can even manage to find a sales associate in sight, 90% guaranteed they don't know the answer to your question. Quote
Bassoholics Anonymous Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 The Dick's by me is worthless. Their selection of fishing gear is minimal and finding someone to help you is near impossible. That's fine, though. If I can't take a look at the Curado in the counter, I can't buy it, right? They don't get any of my money anymore, that's for sure. : Quote
kms399 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 the dicks near me is a complete waste of time I dont even try any more Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 I live within driving distance of three of them. They are not bad as far as fishing stuff goes, inventory varies by store. I was told by one that they won't special order anything for you (rods, reels) Quote
dmac14 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 One word of advice. Never go with out a $10 off $50 or more coupon. This coupon has probably gotten me over $200 worth of free stuff. Look online or I know if you go to an elite series event Mike Ike has stacks of them, just stock up. Quote
Koop Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 ive always wanted to check one out myself, but there arent any near my area here in orlando...... im stuck with a nearby BPS....(but thats not so bad, right? ) I have 2 DSG and a Gander Mountain within 20 minutes of me... and would trade all 3 for a BPS. Thought the Cabellas is nice even though its about 1.5 hours. The nearest BPS is in Chicago about 3 hours away. Always thought it was very odd why WI doesn't have a BPS. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 I've bought everything my local Dick's has to offer. I may go in there once every couple of months to see if they have any new Under Armour products, otherwise I stay away. Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 i have a dicks littelry 4 blocks from my house, and it blows nuts, the fishing section is like 6 isles of cheap tackle except for the plastics and ragetaill stuff.i only go there in a pinch or if im to tired to take the 35 min. drive to bps. I know how you feel... the Gander Mountain I have has a good size selection, but still they carry only the Gander Mountain, St Croix and E21 rods, with a few berkley and ugly sticks mixed in. Both the Dick's have like 2 isles of rapala's followed by a row of dick's brand spinner baits then on to the walleye / northern and musky sections. The selections are poor at best, would think they would have a better selection from what I hear everyone else saying about them. Quote
NEKvt Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I have mixed feelings about Dicks. I have gotten a few reels really cheap from them that I like. It seems they purchase enough fishing stuff to stock the store in March and then never make any attempt to restock. At this point in the year the shelves are barren. Quote

That's because it's a third of the size. Our Dicks is nice though. They could get a better selection of worm hooks and reels though. Quote

esoxangler Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 There is a DSG about 30 minutes away from me, but I never get there. I have a small Gander store 5 min. from me, Cabelas is 8 min. away, Gander "Superstore" about 30 min, and BPS a little over an hour away. Used to have a Sportsmans warehouse too, but that is gone now. So you can understand why I never get to a DSG. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 It is 28 miles to DSG in Wilkes Barre and a little under 40 to Cabela's in Hamburg. My truck has been in DSG's parking lot twice in the last 4 years. Once was to go to DSG's the other to get coffee at Duncan Donuts. DSG does not hold a candle to Cabelas, it is always worth the longer drive Quote

The Chicago BPS is the closest to me as well at about 3 hours away. Though they came to town about a month ago thinking of putting a BPS in East Peoria...5 minutes away from my apartment Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 There is a Dicks only minutes away from here. They have a good assortment of lures and baits. If they don't have exactly what you want, they are quite likely to have something close. Granted, it doesn't hold a candle to BPS, but I'm an hour from the one in Foxboro. Dicks has had a good assortment of Rage Tail lures, but some are obviously old stock. Most but not all of them are packed in the clam shells. They haven't had the lobsters, but they've had a good assorment of monkeys, craws, toads, shads, and anacondas, though only the ten inch version. They have Strike King plastics, but not the 3X elaztech stuff. Lot's or Rapalas, Zooms, Berkleys, hooks, line, and accessories. Short on jigs, but they do carry the BooYah and Strike King pro football jigs, though colors and sizes are limited. But all in all, it's the best in the area. Quote
