dan1942 Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Ok I have been reading a bunch of threads trying to find the right Power and Action rod to be paired up with my Shimano Curado 201E7 reel that I ordered today. Here is my situation, I fish from shore mostly small farm ponds. I primarily use Plastics and have been using a Shimano sahara 2500fd with BPS Xtreme Rod 6'6" MH Fast spinning setup. I am looking to use the Baitcaster for plastics as well as light spinnerbaits, frogs and topwater baits and some crankbaits ( a little of everything). I had my eye on a St. Croix MOJO 7' MH Fast or should I be looking at something else???? I have around a 100.00 Limit As always, everyone on here has always been very helpful and I really appreciate it!! Dan Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 14, 2009 Super User Posted July 14, 2009 I would say put in a little more money and get either a Powell Max 702c or 703c or a Kistler Magnesium 7'MH or 6'10''MH. For the $100 mark the mojo is good but there are also the Kistler Carbon Steel and Falcon Original and Lowrider and loads of other rods now and to come shortly in that range Quote
The Yankee Fist Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Falcon is US made at that price too.. :) Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 14, 2009 Posted July 14, 2009 Save a little more and get a Powell 705C and you will never look back!!!! Quote
dan1942 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Ok I am checking out these other rods right now. @dink is this the one you are talking about ? Powell Casting Rod 7' Mag-Hvy EF 705C If so do you think the MAG-Heavy would be ok for my needs?? Quote

Powell Casting Rod 7' Mag-Hvy EF 705C If so do you think the MAG-Heavy would be ok for my needs?? Yes that's the one and i am sure it would be ok! Many are detoured by the ratings on the Powell rods IMO. They are pretty overrated in power and actions though. The 705C is more like a MH/F than Mag H/ Ex F! There is no difference that i could find between the 704C and the 705C really! I really think you would like it. Hey, if you don't i will buy it off you man, LOL! Quote
dan1942 Posted July 14, 2009 Author Posted July 14, 2009 Thanks Dink !! I will probably pick that one up since its only a little more then I wanted to spend. Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Falcon is US made at that price too.. :) X2 on the Falcon Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 GBlanks, I push these rods alot. They are great rods at great prices, I DO NOT get any royalties from it so Please dont think it. They have a couple on thier eBay store right now or you can call and talk to Larry Mitchell and he'll be more then happy to offer suggestions. Its worth a look. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=GBlanks&_sacat=See-All-Categories Quote

I have fished the 705 and 704 and think there is a slightly different feel to each but both are good rods Quote
