Shimano Convergence rod. Some equipment that I paid good money for that I hate. 1 ML Compre casting rod, 1 Key Largo spinning rod. My all time fav. combo. 7MH Shimano Clarus/Symtre 4000 FH. Quote
21farms Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 i am rather embarrassed to admit that the  :-[ bass pro shops prolite finesse rod (6'9" ML) is one of my absolute favorite rods Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 I love my Storm Rattle craws even though i seem to be the only one that buys these things at Wally World! They produce anytime of year for me! Quote
The Yankee Fist Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 6'6" Bass Pro ML Micro Lite and Pro Qualifier PQ20F reel I bought as a combo for like 70.00 15 years ago. It ain't ever broke, heck, I never broke a rod before in my life and was there when 650.00 worth of Loomis rods broke Monday and left me with that. I thought about giving that rod and reel to a friend who needs a rig like that but not now. No way. I wasn't embarrassed about that old ML, I was embarrassed for the Loomis rods and absolutely thrilled to throw another 65 bucks at them so I can get one for this weekend. Hey, I did the research, knew the warranty, no surprises and love the hell out of them I just didn't expect to have them both break in one day. I am though seriously reconsidering my next purchase...I may go less expensive so I can just go to Cabela's and get a new one. I was ready to dish out GLX/Calcutta TE 200GT dough...well, I still have to get the reel I think. But the rod? Hmmm.....not sure. My bud had no problems with his Ugly Stick though and could have went to freaking Wal Mart and got a new one in between fishing spots if he broke it. : Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 Your Favorite Gear Stinks Some on this board would have you believe that, wouldn't they? As the sunscreen speech goes, so goes advice. "Be careful whose advice you buy. But be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth." I think it's reasonable to take some advice to task. As often as not, I find that the advice was wrong and find myself enjoying something some expert told me wasn't worth the effort. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 WHO CARES!!! Between all of you with superiority or inferiority complexes, this part of the forum is almost not worth reading anymore. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 Since you are so well adjusted I would not bother reading it. : Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 OH NO! Not the pompous "roll eyes" smiley! How will I ever manufacture a retort to that? Guess I better run away now. " :" Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 Get em Muddy..............................fight till the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Â Â Â Â Â Â ;D Quote
Super User Muddy Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 I don't fight with 4bizz, I respect him , dont mean I can't bust em once in a while. Quote
Super User David P Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 I agree, Â A LOT of what people suggest and give so much praise to, is in reality junk, or at least I think so. I have had ZERO success with some of the baits that guys rave about, and some of the stuff I just refuse to try. Every bit of advice on here needs to be taken with a grain of salt. There is not ONE superior reel, nor is there a 100% NO DOUBT ABOUT IT best rod. Some guys love Daiwa, others love Shimano. It just takes time, money, and fishing to figure out what you like. Quote
jaym137 Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I think the point that many miss is that it's not only important to have some knowledge of what you are talking about before giving advice, but that different fisherman can use the exact same line, reel, rod, lure or whatever and have a completely different experience with the same product. Many people love Revos.... I bought one and used one and returned it. That doesn't make it junk or inferior... it just means I didn't care for it as much as my comparatively priced Daiwas or Shimano's. Athough I own a Daiwa Steez and love it...I also have a Bass Pro-Lite Finesse Reel that I think is a great reel that cost a whole lot less. There usually is a point where affordability and quality meet. I think Flueger and Okuma are two companies who do a very good job of making affordable quality products. So when someone says all brand x reels suck it's an opinion that I don't put much stock in. I tend to listen to Road Warrior's opinions based on a whole lot of very intelligent posts. Muddy will do the same and lead you to affordable products that won't leave you broke. If Reel Mech says what type of oil to use for a certain reel...I listen. Anotherwards, I know what I don't know and don't have 25+ years tearing reels apart. Some guys are looking for the absolute best tackle and price is no object. Others are looking for best bang for the buck. The advice you give one guy may not be right for the next. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 I don't see what the big deal is. If you want to try something, try it. If you value some members' opinions then listen to them--if you don't, then don't listen to them...No need to get all up in arms about my stuff vs. your stuff or "x" brand vs. "y" brand. I have a few guys that I listen to based on the fact that they tend to like similar gear as I do--other members I ignore because I know they value different things in tackle than I do. If someone constantly recommends "x" brand then who cares, maybe that brand is the best at satisfying THEIR tackle requirements. Although I do think fourbizz is onto something with the "inferiority" and "superiority" complexes. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I completely agree with Muddy - use it, use it a lot, then tell us about it. I still have several BPS rods, love them. If I could get the same feel out of an ugly stick, I'd buy it. Don't care much about names/labels. Love some of the new shimano/daiwa stuff, but more $$ than I can afford & if I had the money, don't know I would buy it. What I have works for me, that is all that matters. To me. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 I think Ricky Bobby said it best. If you don't chew Big Red, then $%(%* you. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I think a lot of people on here have a very valuable opinion, but I tend to pay attention to some more than others (for example, when "The Natural" speaks, I usually listen since he has owned it all) Quote
Joe Boss Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I have had some of my best catches and memories on "stinky gear" Caught my PB Bass on a Mitchell 300X reel/Berkley lightning rod combo Caught my PB Pickerel on a Shimano Syncopate/Berkley lightning rod combo Caught over 50 Smallies on a day of boating on a Pflueger Intensity/All Star Select combo. I used my Quantum Snapshot paired up with a Ugly Stick for years before I retired it. The reel had hardly any paint on it when I finally put it away in its box for the last time. My favorite spinning reel is my rear drag Pflueger Trion, it comes on every trip with me even though I own a Pflueger Supreme and Shimano Symetre. Â Quote
Super User cart7t Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 Warning Pflueger Patriarchs are junk. Â Anyone buying them should stop now. Â I'm serious here, Â they are trash. Now that I've done my duty and stopped those who wanted to buy one I need to let those who have them know I'll buy up some of those reels now, at around 10 cents on the dollar, just to get the trash off your rod. PM me with what you've got and I'll be happy to degrade the reel even more and offer you even less that what that low life, piece of shiny aluminum is worth. Â Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 This thread could turn up some potential deals on the flea market now.... ;D Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 what i lmao about is we can do the very same thing with boats. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted July 16, 2009 Super User Posted July 16, 2009 hmmmm....I guess the biggest stink I prefer is Berkley XT. Â Call me whatever you want, but I'm never going to believe it's junk/crap,used by the maladroit, misadjusted or inept as some have suggested. Â I like it and I'll never quit using it. Everything I use/own "stinks". ;D Â Works for me though. Â The only wagon I've jumped on based on info from this site has been the Revo wagon. Â Micro was the influence (thank you) and the only reason I did it was because I wanted to try a different brand (other than my usual Shimano/Daiwa's). Â If I listen to anyone here, it's Micro, because he's detailed and seems to stick his unbiased thumb in every pie that comes around. Â That kind of info is just more meaningful than somebody lapping at the same pair of boots all the time. Â I wish I had the resources to be so adventurous as he. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I have never personally said anything on this site site stinks but I have given an account of what has worked for me and what has not. I find that bashing anything gets personal and when you start to get personal you lose your objectivity and credibility. You also alienate those who use the gear you just bashed. I try to chime in only when I have a positive review to add or to state my preference. Ok I lied. I hate those Storm Wildeye Shad swim-baits. The pull left left or to the right but never straight. Don't believe me I'll send you what I got and you can see for yourself. Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 16, 2009 Posted July 16, 2009 I have said a few bad things about berkley products, and the KVD conditioner on braid and I stand behind them. I like this board because their is no constant shimano vs daiwa trend. Quote
