Hinkle2891 Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I had some XPS 12 pound test on my pfleuger echelon reel and well... let my girlfriend hold and she tried to cast it and let's just say that that is the LAST time! lol. anyways, i really don't want to have to order from BPS again, so is there a better line for a baitcaster? i primarily use it for worm fishing, however, i will occationally tie on a spinnerbait or a crakbait on to it. also, i was thinking of going down to a 10, or maybe even 8 pound test line. the rod it's on is a mh/f pfleuger trion. it's rated at 10lb text/140 yards. DINK WHISPERER Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 All my fluoro is XPS so i just order the big spools of the stuff! I would recommend Trilene 100% fluoro if you want to change it up. It is smoother than XPS but not nearly as strong! Quote
SammyLee Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Boy, the line debate goes on forever and I guess for a good reason. I am becoming more and more a flurocarbon fan. I've got 10# P-Line fluro on my baitcaster, mostly for plastic that I want to sink. I also like the "less" stretch "" cause it does have some, less than mono but more than braid. Heck, just do what I did, buy about ten different ones and respool every rod in the house two or three times! Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 12, 2009 Super User Posted July 12, 2009 12 lb big game all ya need make it green Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Red label fluorocarbon, and power pro. The big game mono might sound like a good deal until you use it. Quote
adclem Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Ultra Soft in either 10 or 12lbs test. Best of both worlds. I also use the BPS brand fluorocarbon and it is very good line as well as being decently priced. Later, Quote
steezy Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 P-Line CX Premuim, if you get hung up, you will straighten the hook on your lure and save the lure but the line won't break. 10 or 12 # floro in moss green. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted July 12, 2009 Super User Posted July 12, 2009 why would you put 8 lb line on a baitcaster?you should be using 10 to 25 lb diameter lines on it.i suggest 50 or 65 lb fireline braid. Quote

Poolie727 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 I noticed that no one mentioned 'Vanish' as being their favorite : I made the mistake of picking up a spool of that the other day and I suspect I will strip it off and go back to Seaguar AbrazX or Red Label. I like the smoothness of their lines. I am going to have to order a spool of XPS though. I've heard lots of people say they like it. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 13, 2009 Super User Posted July 13, 2009 I used Vanish until Trilene released the 100% flouro. Never had a problem with it. For worm fishing, I would fish Trilene or Stren 100% flouro 12 or 15 lb. Failing that, PLine CXX 12 or 15 lb. Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 The big game might work on a spinning reel, since you're cat fishing. I fish everyday, I don't sit around in a fold up chair waiting on a bite. Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Not a thing in the world wrong with Big Game, you get a ton of it at a good price that's all I used to use. But have moved on to Sufix Siege. The only reason I would use flouro is for cranks. For plastics, topwaters, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, and my jigging needs Sufix gets it done for me. Quote
