Diablos Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 It's been a long 2 years since I took up freshwater fishing and I've slowly built my arsenal of rods. I refused to be a fanboy so I purchased rods from multiple manufacturers...I have Dobyns, All-Star, St Croix, Airrus and a Rogue custom. So last but not least I ordered my 7'8" Carrot Stix Gold(here tomorrow) that I will be using for swimbaits but I'm having a problem finding a suitable bc reel with a slower retrieve. I would prefer a low profile reel in the 5.8-1 gear ratio or less. I will be filling the reel with 55lb Daiwa Samurai braid Any suggestions? Quote
War Party Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 A Shimano Curado 200E5. http://www.***.com/descpageRLCSHIMANO-SCER.html Quote
Cavfirst Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Revo Winch or Abu 5500 if you dont mind a round reel. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted July 10, 2009 Super User Posted July 10, 2009 A lot of people are happy with the Daiwa Crazy Cranker: http://www.***.com/descpageRLCDAIWA-TDZCC.html Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 If you have some money, and want to look cool get the daiwa, otherwise if you want a slow reel that has plenty of torque a 5.3:1 or slower reel can be found cheap in the bargin bin, or pawn shop. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 10, 2009 Super User Posted July 10, 2009 Unless you are dead set on a low profile, take a look at the Shimano CTE200GT. Here's my post from the other "baitcasting" thread still up on the first page, a few lines down: Shimano CTE200GT http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/products/reels/r... I have one matched with a G. Loomis MBR844C. This is my weighted soft plastics rod and striper rod. Another is saddled to a Lamiglas SR705R for deep cranking. The CTE200GT is built like a tank, but is surprisingly compact. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant...This is a reel that represents everything Shimano is known for. With proper maintenance, you will fish this reel the rest of your life. All of my reels, except an STX, are my "favorite" reels. However, the CTE200GT is the only reel that I have two of. I think this reel addresses your needs and that you will be very pleased with its performance. Quote
aarogb Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Pfluger Trion. It cost $99.00 and hasn't failed me yet. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I would recommend the Revo Winch. Great real with a tough drag. It's been a long 2 years since I took up freshwater fishing and I've slowly built my arsenal of rods. Hmm...I didn't see G Loomis on yout list, so I wouldn't call the Carrot Stick the last (though it maybe the least...j/k) Quote

I have been saltwater fishing all my life and do own a couple of Loomis GL2's. I've just couldn't get into the freshwater handle setups. Quote

Deputy Dave Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I have two Shimano Curado 200E5's but my new favorite slow ratio reel is my new Revo Winch...You will love this reel!!! Quote
Diablos Posted July 11, 2009 Author Posted July 11, 2009 Thanks guys I'm either going to go with the Abu Revo Toro or the Abu Winch. Probably going to head to Bass Pro tomorrow to play with both. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 11, 2009 Super User Posted July 11, 2009 you will want the REVO TORO , regular sized bait casters will not hold enough line ( even the winch won't ) you can get the TORO on ebay for $200 w/free shipping , that's where i'm gonna get mine Quote
old bassman Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Check out the Lew's BB-25SS of the Lew's BB19SS. The BB1's are also great reels and all have lower retrieve ratio's. These are true work horses. Some people have not been kind to the new lew's 25's and 19's but if you clean and remove some old grease in the gears they are awsome and reliable. But they do not look sexy!!!! and are not necessarily low profile reels. I fish 2 and I never had a problem. Quote
