Koop Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Anyone have experience with this brand? Just found out today that prior military / military get a 25% discount on all rods. As I'm in the market for a new flipping rod I may take advantage of this if they have positive feedback. http://www.castawayrods.com/ Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 8, 2009 Super User Posted July 8, 2009 I don't think you'll see many boats in texas without at least one on the deck, or so I have heard. I have a 7'6''H Big Show Flipping Stick, Terry Scroggind Sig., and I like it alright, great rod, light and tough, I just haven't had a chance to fish it much this year due to work. A quality rod, I got it on sale at TW for $100 right before christmas. Quote
USMCGrunt Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I just got one here last week at the local PX and tried it over the 4th of July weekend. I'm not a fishing guru of any sort or even all that experienced but it seemed like a nice rod to me. Quote
cidgrad96 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 The CastAway blanks are pretty good for the money. I can't speak to the factory versions. I've had success out of the HG40s and the XP3s both. They use a multimodulus layup to create a lightweight and durable rod. Are they high end? No. But IMO you could spend that same amount of money in worse places pretty easily. I know Swampland Tackle ran out of the Big Show blanks pretty fast. Proved popular among custom builders. Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 I've only handled one, not the most sensitive rod but very well built. Quote
OIFBasser Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 How do you prove that you are prior service, I may have to start picking these rods up. I heard they are pretty popular on the gulf. Quote
Chris W Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 There launcher is a great crankbait/swimming jig rod I have 2 and love them Quote
Cavfirst Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 This is the only brand my Brother-in-Law will fish he loves them particularly the older ones. The same man who started ALL Star rods built Castaway hence the older ones or the pro-sport series feel the same. Good rods for the money and they seem to be very durable built with quality stuff. Oh yeah Kistler rods is owned by his son I dont think you will be disappointed with them the actions seem to be alittle lighter on the newer ones a med feels more like a med lite etc...Semper Fi Quote
