Super User bigbill Posted July 3, 2009 Super User Posted July 3, 2009 What happened to all the copolymere fishing line? I been using excaliber silver thread but the cost of spooling 10 to 15 rods all the time gets costly. I found out the Cabela's coploymere line to be just as good as the silver thread but much cheaper. I guess they don't offer it anymore. The copolymere line has less stretch over regular mono. I guess its back to excaliber silver thread. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 4, 2009 Super User Posted July 4, 2009 I bought a spool of 20# cxxx on the recommendation of pline's web site. A lot of coiling and I won't say it's crap but just not for me. I emailed pline and they are exchanging it for me, hardly worth the postage of $4.50, but just something to do. In the meantime I spooled with 17# trilene xl, no coiling no line twist and was catching very sizeable fish with 50+ yard runs. About every charter I go the Captain is using either bulk mono or Ande, imo these guys are the real experts on equipment. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND obtaining as much info as possible from guides and captains. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 4, 2009 Super User Posted July 4, 2009 CXX has memory, but that is a necessary trade-off for strength and abrasion resistance. I should have known better, tried copolymer before and wasn't happy then. My application is for open water fishing abrasion resistance is not an issue but strength is. I have 20# pline floroclear on a conventional rig and it's plenty strong, no coil either, I have caught very sizeable fish on it. The key to no coil with mono is soaking in hot water works everytime without fail. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this method. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted July 4, 2009 Super User Posted July 4, 2009 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this method. Yeah, I'll get right on that. Quote

sweet daddy Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I highly recommend that you get some decent fluorocarbon. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted July 5, 2009 Super User Posted July 5, 2009 I'm really a braid man, but only use mono in 1 scenario, where braid is frowned upon so I switch spools. Under normal circumstances for me nothing but braid is used. Quote
adclem Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I had been using Yo-Zuri Hybrid on all of my setups till recently. My local BPS and Cabelas seem to be no longer stocking it or are just taking their time restocking it. So in the mean time I decided to try out some P-Line CXX X-tra and so far this line is every bit as good as Yo-Zuri. Won't say its better yet but it is good. Went with 8lbs on my spinning reels and 12lbs on my BCs. By the way spooled this up without KVD L&L and made some pratice casts and it seems very very manageable. Will have KVD with me just in case! Heading out today to try it out. Later, Quote
