crankbait2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 hey all just went fishing a bit ago and out of all the things that could happen, i broke my rod!!! about 6" of the tip of my rod broke right in half :'(. i wish i could say i was pulling in the biggest bass ever but that certainly wasnt the case. as i was leaving to fish the door slammed right on the tip and i was furious >!!! needless to say i still went fishing. figured id worry about this issue later. although i am without a rod (kinda) i was able to land 2 smallies and 1 sunfish in about 30 minutes time. i was extrememly happy about that!!! anyways, for my question. I had an extreme BPS rod that i bought with an extreme rod/reel baitcasting combo around christmas time. it is 6'-6", MH, Fast action, 3/8-1oz lure capability and 10-20lb line i was looking to replace my rod and as many of you know, the prices are crazy rediculous!! with me knowing the rod that i want (specifications) can anyone give me some advice on what rod to get for the money? id like to spend as little as possible but yet still be pleased with the rods results. manufacturer and model number would be great. if i were to replace the rod i broke with the same, it is $100. if im gonna spend the same amount or a little more id like to make sure its worth every dime. replacing a rod on a small budget is not fun. i was reading a post by roadwarrior and he mentioned a 7', M, fast or moderate action rod with a G-Loomis model number. kinda pricey for me right now ($400) any help would be appreciated. :'(
ChazfromVA Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 look into the carrot stiks.... you jsut might like them.. and their price tag
crankbait2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 iv'e seen the carrot sticks in BPS but never heard very many people talk about them. i did notice a Shimano Compre for $100. ive heard people say nothing but positive things about those. its looking like the extreme, shimano compre and the st croix mojo bass rods are all the same price. the carrot stick is 50 bucks more but the reviews on it are quite impressive. i may go that route. it wont match my reel but i guess matching will come later : hopefully not out of the water for long :'(
ghost Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 If you still have the receipt for the rod combo from BPS, bring that & the broken rod in to them. They may replace the rod or give you credit for another brand...it won't hurt to try. I've seen a few broken BPS rods at the customer service counter & the cs person tells them to go & get another rod of equal value. Or if you don't have the receipt bring the rod to them & tell them what happened. It's a BPS rod so technically they should replace it free of charge...in store.

(beginner in the whole baitcasting world). how does this compare? i would like a rod that is very sensitive. would this work? i just looked this up and the rod is $40, originally $140

The XML is next to the Cabelas top of the line XMLTi. The rod is very sensitive with both braid, mono and fluoro and available in both regular grip and split grip specialty models. They are available in all powers and most are around $40 and some have said they are a bit on the heavy side but I don't think so.
crankbait2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Author Posted June 30, 2009 if there was a way to end this thread i would.................... i would like to thank yo ufor the advice on which rod to replace my broken one with. i guess i jumped the gun before contacting BPS. although it was my fault that the rod broke i didn't even think i could return it. i called online customer service and they said i need to mail it in to get "considered" for an exchange. and that would have taken a few weeks. so i decided to take a trip to my local BPS, i explained what happened, (that a smallmouth broke my pole ;D) and the girl didn't even blink. she said we cant give you a new rod but we will replace EVERYTHING, so she said go pick out a combo that is the same. so i did. once i got back up to the counter with the replacement, she asked is it the same, i said ya, ok go ahead and go. she didn't even look at it nor have me sign a receipt or anything :-/. now if i was really that dishonest, i could have picked a rod/reel combo that blew the Extremes out of the water. they would have never known. i am good to go now and again, thanks for the advice.

Glad you decided to take it back and yeah I had the same thing happen with a Cabelas rod and they did the same thing with telling me to go find the rod and made it and even exchange. Glad to see you are back on the water
