topwater.va Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 What would be a good spinning reel and rod setup for throwing weightless lures? price range 150-200 for whole setup Thanks Quote
War Party Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Mojo Bass MBS68MXF w/ a 2500 Shimano Sedona. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 I would use a 7'M-MH f-xf rod, depending on what you like. As for suggestions I would say either a Powell Max or Kistler Magnesium TS with a Pflueger President. Quote
Super User Tin Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 I use a 7'2 Shimano Cumara medium action with an extra fast tip and a Abu Cardinal 503(?) with 6 pound Seaguar Invis-x and it is an amazing combo. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 I fish wacky rigs a lot. I have two medium heavy action 6'6" spinning rods with size 2500 reels for Trick worms with 30# braid and 20# fluorocarbon leader. Four medium action 6' spinning rods with size 2000 reels for finesse worms-two have 30# braid with 20# fluorocarbon leader and two have 20# braid with a 20# fluorocarbon leader. One 6'6"medium heavy action baitcaster for Trick worms with 30# braid and 20# fluorocarbon leader. I also have 3 spincast outfits with 5'6"' medium action rods, 20# braid and 20# fluorocarbon leader for novice anglers that may fish with me. I have several brands. Some are less than that price range, some are in that range and some are over that range. For other weighless plastics like Flukes and Senkos, I use several baitcasting rigs with 14#, 17# and 20# fluorocarbon or 30# braid depending on the cover. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 All Star Platinum P815WWS. It's their Wacky worm special spinning rod. Team that with a Pflueger President XT and you're at the $200 mark. Quote
OIFBasser Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Shimano Compre 6'6" MXF w/ a Symetre 2500 spooled with 8lb. Izorline. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 All the big retailers have combo sales constantly. Buy a 6 1/2' or 7' MF or MXF "house brand" rod that comes with a Shimano Symetre 2500FJ reel. Be patient and NEVER pay retail. These combinations are always on sale, the retailers just rotate their "specials". Also, keep an eye on our Fleas Market. Great deals pop up there all the time, too! 8-) Quote
SoFl-native Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Mojo Bass MBS68MXF w/ a 2500 Shimano Sedona. +1 on this rod length. Check out the 6'8" and 6'10" lengths for wacky. Perfect length IMO. Long enough to cast well but short enough to roll cast and skip. Quote
