auburn bass man Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Hey guys, I am looking to add another set up to my arsenal. I am in dire need of a crank/spinnerbait rod. All of my other setups have far too stiff of a tip and it is beating me to death. Im looking to add a topwater rod as well. So tell me this. Can one rod cover both techniques? Either way, I'm looking for some reccomendations or info on what you use or are thinking about getting yourself for around 150. I appreciate all your help. Quote
Big O Tires Angler Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I just picked up a Powell 706CB and I must say that it is pretty excellent for 1/2 oz lipless crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwaters. Quote
auburn bass man Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Alright well more specifically, what power/action do you prefer for crankbaits spinnerbaits and topwater? Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I use a BPS Crankin' Stick with a BPS limited editionTournament reel. It is a MH/F and it is PERFECT for any treble hook lures and spinerbaits. I found that it makes a great topwater rod for treble topwaters. Can't beat the price either. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 Kistler Magnesium MGCBSAGM70 or Kistler Magnesium MgAPSMH69 Quote
midnighthrasher Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Shimano Crucial mh moderate action. I got one with a curado e5 and i love it. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 I like using a medium power, mod-fast action for lures with treble hooks and a m/h for spinnerbaits. Uncle Leo has a Dobyns 684cb rod for $100. I have this same rod for crankbaits and topwater and I LOVE IT!!! Here is the link for the rod for sale... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1245756890 Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I use a 6'9" parabolic carrot stix and so far I like it a lot. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 St. Croix Avid AVC66MF is my dedicated topwater/ jerkbait rod. The length and power rating are good for working the lures. The tip is soft to absorb some shock when fighting a fish. This is also a rod I would highly recommend for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and medium weight crankbaits. The MSRP is $170, but the Avids are occasionally on sale. Reed's offers free shipping and there is no sales tax: http://www.reedssports.com/Product/product.taf?_function=detail&_ID=13255&pc=2286 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 Spinnerbait, crankbait, topwater... decide which of the 3 you need/want most and buy it. Try it for the other techniques and see if it will work. Some people will say you need 3 seperate rods and others combine 2 or 3 in a single rod. But none of the responses will help you that much until you try it... since it's a feel and preference thing. To me, each of those is a separate rod, but each of them would also double with another technique, not listed. Quote
auburn bass man Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 Thanks I appreciate the good info. I have an All Star M/XF and its a little too stiff for what I want. Ill be looking for one of those Avids to go on sale for sure. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 29, 2009 Super User Posted June 29, 2009 I use a 6'10'' MH Carrot Stix Gold for shallow-mid cranks and topwater; 7'MH Lucky Craft Cranking Rod for deep divers; and a 7'MH Avid for spinnerbaits. I like a little stiffer of a rod and faster reel for spinnerbaits Quote
