UMass fisher Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Just wondering what knot is best for when your putting new line on a reel. And does anybody have any tricks to make it easier to do it yourself without having someone to hold the spool of line for you? Thanks in advance. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 26, 2009 Super User Posted June 26, 2009 Arbor Knot: http://www.animatedknots.com/arbor/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com#Autoblock Put the spool in a box, upright so the line comes off the top, not the bottom. You'll probably need a bottle, glass, a block of wood or something to keep the spool upright, but still free to spin. 8-) Quote
bhos Posted June 26, 2009 Posted June 26, 2009 Walmart now carries a plastic box for storing line spools with little openings on the front for spooling a reel from it. I think they're $3 or $4 dollars. I use that to spool, then I tie a swivel to a tree and walk most of the line out and reel it back in to remove most of the twist. Quote
Marshfisher Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Last year I bought one of thee berkley line spooling things and I really like it. I never tried it with spinning reels but the rod that holds the line spool can be poistioned stright on or sideways. For baitcast reels you can give the line some pre tension too which makes for a better job loading the reel. I will not go back to doing it without a jig like this. Well worth the money over time. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_13313_100017004_100000000_100017000_100-17-4 Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 28, 2009 Super User Posted June 28, 2009 I don't think it much matters what line you tie to the spool. If you ever hook into some monster that takes out all the line, that sucker's gonna pop regardless of the knot. Quote
