michaelkim_9582 Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 I was just wondering what pound test of line you guys use for each type of fishing. crankbaits, jigs and etc. just wondering how it compares to everyone elses. thanks Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 22, 2009 Super User Posted June 22, 2009 That depends on type and ammount of cover and on bottom composition, from 6 lbs to 17. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 22, 2009 Super User Posted June 22, 2009 Excatly...I use yozuri, which is rated way lower, i.e. 10 lb is closer to 20 lb..so I go from 6 to 12 lb test. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 23, 2009 Super User Posted June 23, 2009 K.I.S.S. Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test). Baitcasting gear: Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test) 8-) Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 23, 2009 Super User Posted June 23, 2009 8 or 10# CXX for most treble hook baits. 12# CXX for spinnerbaits/buzzbaits. 50# PowerPro for medium jigs, frogs, t-rig. 65# PowerPro for the big jigs, t-rigs, frogs in pads. 15# PowerPro for drop shot, shaky, other finesse stuff. 6# CXX for dragging tubes. Depending on the cover and structure, I will add a fluorocarbon leader to the braided setups, anything from 4# to 25#. I like Gamma and CFX leader. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 23, 2009 Super User Posted June 23, 2009 All baitcasters have 15# Big Game. Spinning reel has 10# Big Game. Ultralite has 4# Yo-Zuri Hybrid. Quote
John B Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Ultralight spinning rod 4# Most other bass fishing that I do (all on spinning reels) 8#, lake and river, all cover and basically types of baits. For what its worth, even steelhead fishing I use 12# line, I can't imagine using a line much thicker than that for any type of fishing, but that is just me. Quote
jimmieO Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I've got 20lb XPS flourocarbon that I love on all my flipping and topwater stuff, 15-17lb Trilene mono on my crankbait and spinnerbait rods. Can't find any that I like any better. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 24, 2009 Super User Posted June 24, 2009 I use mostly 6 - 14 pound test, mostly mono. Will go with heavier braid in heavy cover, and I do like braid for jerkbaits better than mono, it gives them a better action. For senkos, flukes, tubes, and smaller worms I go with 6 - 10 pound test. Shallow or light cranks I use 6 - 8 pound mono, never going above 12 on cranks. Spinnerbaits I use 10 - 14, jigs 12 - 14, bigger plastics 10 - 14, topwaters besides buzzbaits and frogs I go 8 - 12, buzzbaits 10 - 14, and frogs a minimum of 20 pound braid. Quote
Super User fishinfiend Posted June 24, 2009 Super User Posted June 24, 2009 I use 12# for everything. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 24, 2009 Super User Posted June 24, 2009 8 lb. PLine CX on two spinning reels 8 lb. PLine CXX on two crankbait rigs 12 lb. PLine CXX on two spinnerbait rigs 15 lb. Trilene 100% flouro or Stren 100% flouro fluorescent on two jig/worm rigs 20 lb. PLine CXX on the swimbait rig Quote
von Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 12lb Yozuri for most app. 20lb Yozuri frog. Jigs 65lb braid. Quote
Bean Counter Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 8# on all spinning reels 12 or 14# on casting reels except my jig rod has 60# braid Quote
