Problems with Braided line...

I have been using braid for a few seasons now, and it wasn't until my last outing I had a problem. I had a snagproof frog on and I casted it out and my line snapped, I look and there wasn't a backlash. but what had happened was my braid had like dug down into the layers below it and it seems this is a problem throughout the whole spool. is any one else having issues with their braid digging into its self? what can i do? Or is replacing the line inevitable?

What test were you using? This will happen with the lower test more often. Also went playing a fish if your drag is very tight with lower test line it will dig into itself. Much less if you go up to at least 50- 65 lb test.

Its a common issue with braid, some braided lines are better than others when it comes to digging.  I have found the thicker and rounder braid is less likely it dig into itself.  

Also, sometimes you can be the culprit and not know it.  For example if you get snagged and tug at your line you should take at least a foot of line off your reel before reeling in again.  While you tug it sometimes causes a tight spot so the next time you cast it digs itself in even further at the tight point.

Also before an outing I like hook my lure to a stationary object and run about 40-50yards out of my reel.  I get a rag that I have soaked in warm water and run the line through it as I reel it in.  You can also use KVD line conditioner or line conditioner of choice (note you some line conditioners take up to 24hours to work their magic).   As you reel it in don't apply too much pressure though, it needs to be enough so the line lays flat without too much slack on it.  

I have found that some braids are horrible no matter what you do. I won't mention the names of the bad ones because I am sure some forum members swear by them, but to each his own.  I really like Stren's discountinued Superbraid or Daiwa's Samurai.

one thing you can do which seemed to help me a lot...

next time you spool up, put maybe 25 yards or so of mono tie it to the braid and then fill the rest up with braid. dunno why, but it works.

I use braid exclusively ( PP) and do not have any negative issues. Using mono is out of the realm of possibility for me.

Agreed with Triton.  Replace with Sufix 65 , especially if this is your frog outfit.

When you set a hook or get hung on a stump/limb bass, make a long cast, then pull some/a lot of line out, the reel back in.  Every 2/3 times I go fishing, when I get home, I 'walk my line out'.  I have a hook and swivel in a tree, I connect my line swivel to it and walk the line out about 75 yards, then reel back in.  This seem to seat the line and I have less problem with braid (Power Pro/Suffix) embedding on the reel.  

I consider this just normal maintenance.  Of course, 2 of my sons (26 and 37) think I go way overboard on normal maintenance.

I have tried all brands, sizes shapes etc of braid and they all dig to some extent! I get bad dig ins on hook sets since i flip with 65lb braid and lock the drag! I will just make a cast after a fish and keep fishing!

I have used a few different braids and they all seem to dig in at some point, however I have never had Stren Super or Sonic break on me.

PP on the other hand has broken on me several times, including on the cast, one of which sent my 20 dollar BBZ to the bottom of the sea, so I don't use it anymore. I know it's a favorite of a lot of folks, but I personally have zero confidence in it.

Suffix will also dig in at times, but seems like a good line. Never had it break on me, but at the same time I have not used it much to give it a 100%.  

Spiderwire has broken on me also, but unlike the PP of which was 50lb test, the Spiderwire I tried was only 20 lbs test. not really and excuse, but it happened none the less.

Bottom line is no line is perfect, but some are better then others. Change brand and see if that helps.
