Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 22, 2009 Super User Posted June 22, 2009 So, about 2 1/2 weeks ago, I bought a swimbait/jig rig. Shimano Calcutta rod, and a Shimano Cardiff reel. Well the clutch bar on the cardiff kept disengaging, happened 3 times, today was the 3rd, and I got a Major overrun..argh! So, I call the tackleshop where I bought it, asked if I should take it to Shimano, or can we work out a deal, he says bring it in, and I'll see what I can do. So I go in, he looks at it, noticing the rash on the top of the reel, which I told him about before I took it in. He says , whatcha wanna do, I said can I upgrade, he said sure, I ask a few questions about the Curado, and the Chronarch, I wound up getting the chronarch 101bppv..before he rang it up, he said Wait, i think someone has a sale on them, so he looks in western outdoor news, and sure enough, $50.00 off the going price, so I get the chronarch for 50 bucks less, and get imho a way better reel..I'm a happy camper...the guys at my local tackle shop are Great! Oh, the name of it...Long Fin Tackle in orange county so. cali. 8-) Quote

Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 22, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 22, 2009 Can you exsplain that for me..? I think we have different definitions for the word 'upgrade'. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted June 23, 2009 Super User Posted June 23, 2009 Can you exsplain that for me..?I think we have different definitions for the word 'upgrade'. Upgrades in the reel world mean , u change drag material, bearings, handles, spools, in said reel Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2009 Ahhh, never thought about that. Ok. so I traded up for a "slightly better " reel..how's that..? I think we have different definitions for the word 'upgrade'. Quote
sweet daddy Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 They sold you another shimano, I don't know witch model they sold you, but you didn't upgrade, you just bought a more expensive reel with the same features as your old reel. Maybe a better drag, weighs less, faster retrieve and few more bearings, but hey if you think you got a deal roll with it. My Cardiff upgrade would be a Calcutta gtb, or dc. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2009 I got the Chronarch bpv...which imho is a Better reel, check the specs on both reels. As for getting another Shimano...I like Shimano.. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 If you wanna upgrade the Cardiff I'd get a Calcutta smooth, reliable and virtually bulletproof. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 23, 2009 Author Super User Posted June 23, 2009 Geez, don't some of you guys Read the post's....? Quote
Super User .RM. Posted June 23, 2009 Super User Posted June 23, 2009 Hammer 4, We knew what you meant........ Chronarch is a great reel, and is a great upgrade to the arsenal. The Cardiff with a lot of proper upgrades can be a better reel, but is still a good reel. Tight Lines!! Quote

Hammer 4,We knew what you meant........ Chronarch is a great reel, and is a great upgrade to the arsenal. The Cardiff with a lot of proper upgrades can be a better reel, but is still a good reel.
