Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 27, 2007 Super User Posted December 27, 2007 what is the best reasonably priced hollow body frog at a reasonable price (around $7)? all the ones ive ever dealt with cant hook a fish due to poor hook placement. any good ones out there? Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 27, 2007 Super User Posted December 27, 2007 Snag Proof Tournament Frog with BB's in the butt as usual. The popper version is prett sweet to. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 27, 2007 Super User Posted December 27, 2007 I think you are going to find that most of the hollow bodies have a less than perfect hook up ratio. That said, the SPRO bronzeyes seem to be popular. The Furbits also look like a decent bait (hate that name for some reason). There is not too much variance in hook placement w/ the hollow frogs. Personally, I prefer one of the soft plastic toads available.... Quote
Infidel. Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I have had the best hook up ratio with the Snag Proof "Bobby's Perfect Frog" The Bronze Eye comes in at a close second. Quote
Super User flechero Posted December 27, 2007 Super User Posted December 27, 2007 I like the scum frogs. Rarely miss a fish on them. I've also used the others mentioned above with no trouble. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 27, 2007 i was lookin at the bobbys perfect frog and the way it sounds is some bobby dude got the regular frog and modded it to his likin and then they produced em "pre-modded" is that true? i think that may be the one i get. Pretty much. If you look at the regular snag proof frog, the legs have thighs that stick out. Bobby Barrack trimmed these off and as a result, the bait has less resistence in the back and it walks better. Another thing is that the Bobby frog has a Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG frog hook where as the tournament frog has the Owner frog hook. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 27, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 27, 2007 ok thats good to know. thanks for all the info everybody! Quote
SBM-RL Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 trim the legs skirts down and bend the hooks up just a little bit with plyers and you will have much better hook up ratio with your spro frogs. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I like the snag proof Tournament Frog, and the Spro frogs, but I have pretty much stopped using hollow frogs as baits. The advantage of the hollow body frogs over plastic frogs, IMO, is that you can let them sit on the surface in pockets. But look into Gambler Cane Toads, the floating version. They actually float high in the water, and have way better leg action than hollow toads. You should also have a much higher hookup ratio with these. I bought a mess of them last summer and they're tremendous baits. It's the only version of a plastic frog I've found that actually floats well. Quote
BassinWill301 Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 I dont know what the best frog is because but my favorite is the spro bronzeye. I have had a really good hook up percentage with these. Quote
Cory20 Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Take a rubber band and tie it around the frog just forward of the hook points. This will depress the body, exposing the hook points just a little bit more. Making hook sets easier. Wouldn't do this fishing heavy slop/pads, but I wouldn't be using a hollow bodied frog in there either. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 27, 2007 Super User Posted December 27, 2007 snag proof weed demon is a pretty sweet thing.Dont buy the BPS version of it.That one is 0 stars out of 5 and is a total piece o poop. Quote

LCpointerKILLA Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I need to try something besides the bronzeye. Thanks for the new ideas! Quote
rfrazier Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Snag Proof Bobby's perfect frog for sure. Quote
JigNBig Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I use Spro Bronzeyes, but like others have said I bend the hooks up just a little bit and add rattles. I think hollow body frog fishing is a very specific technique. The only times I ever use these over plastic frogs is matted grass or skipping then under low lying trees/brush. Plastic frogs are more versatile and can be used extremely fast or extremely slow. You can drop them in holes or lets them sink on the last piling on the shady side of a dock. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 28, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 28, 2007 i might have to look for that floating cane toad. i like the hook up ratios of soft plastic frogs, and i also like how that one floats...because the one thing i dont like about soft ones is that they sink when paused. i might just have to look for some of these and pick em up if i see em! Quote
mike bat Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 i have to say the spro frog bar none ..... its the olny one imo ..... id be willing to bet some guys here dont have the hook set down ,,,, and others may not be useing the right gear to get a solid hook set .... my hook up ratio is almost 100 with a frogg i do miss one here and there .... i dont tweek the hooks at all nor do i trim the leggs ..... i do slime the frog up with mega strike ...... this will help getting the hook sets ./..... IMO Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Can't go wrong with a original Scumfrog http://www.scumfrog.com/scumfrog.html. Best frog Ive found so far for hook ups. I hate the Bronze Eye. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 River2Sea Bully Wa and the Sumo Frog are both my favorites. Quote

They used to have floating green but I'm not sure where they went. I like the black ones. I like the leg action these toads have too. It's kind of a gurgling sound, similar to a buzzbait. Quote

Brad_Coovert Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 ...because the one thing i dont like about soft ones is that they sink when paused. But that's a good thing about the soft frogs. I've caught a ton of fish letting a soft plastic toad slowly sink into holes in grass/pads or next to wood. A lot of fish will not hit them on top, but will crush them on the fall. I always rig up a floating hollow frog and a soft plastic toad when I am frogging. Brad Quote
Infidel. Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 River2Sea Bully Wa and the Sumo Frog are both my favorites. Have they improved those at all? I like the fact that you can practically make it walk in place but the three I've had all took on water really bad. Quote
