Broke my first rod over the weekend.  Was my flipping stick which I just started using this year and caught my biggest fish on.  Set the hook on a 3lber and my first two guides just popped off. Got the fish but was really bummed.  Just wanted to see how many rods have broken on you guys.

never on a fish, was it a cheap stick maybe you dont store them right (i.e against something with the tip bent) my friend keeps his in a closet like that and never fails once a year he busts a tip off cause of the way he stores his rods.

One.

My fault.

Got lure caught in a tree and pulled real hard and rod snapped.  ;)

Couple in car doors...one while fishing. Got hung up and gave a very modest tug on an 8ft Ugly Stick. Broke right into down at the handle end. Looked like you took a set of channel locks and cut it! No splintering or anything.  Took it back to BPS and they gave me a new one.

About 5 in 40+ years. Not too bad I guess.

Most memorable rod breakage was on the first DD bass of my life.... an 11-11, and I still landed the fish with the rod broke off right above the first guide ;-)

Peace,

Fish

Back in the early days of graphite rods? Probably 2 or 3. It was not uncommon for those early graphite rods to snap on hooksets.

Since then? Only 2 I can think of that broke solely due to rod failure, one of those includes a reel seat that came apart.

I've broken quite a few but car doors, doors in my house,  rod lockers, stepping on them, etc. is the usual way.

Only two on fish, and I suspect the were defective.  Their replacements work fine to this day.  Another two or three through stupidity.

I've only broken one while fishing in 45 years.  That was a Shimano Bantam back in the mid 80s.  It just snapped when casting a spinnerbait.

I have broken one of two other through clumsiness or just plain dumbness.

ive broken 3 in the past month:

1- my nephews cheap daiwa rod. Got a snag, gave it a pull snapped in half

2- my brand new crucial which the guide caught in a cleat on my brothers boat and ripped off

3- a cumara which broke while pitching jigs in grass. Just snapped. no snag no nothing honest. braught it back to shimano and got a new one he said sometimes it happens.

I am happy to have baught good shimano rods because i got a service center 15 minutes from my house and their warranty is amazing

3 total while fishing, 0 not fishing

2 of the 3 were Quantum KVD signature series rods...one on a hookset and the other fighting a fish

The other was a BPS crankin stick while swinging a fish in the boat.

1 while fishing, and a couple more years ago out of stupidity.

The fishing one could also be put in the stupidity group I guess too. Just last month I hooked a 4lb bass on a jig in a laydown and swung him into the boat fast, high and hard, broke my 7' MH Avid down about 3 guides from the tip. Sounded like a gun shot in the boat. But St. Croix took care of it, even after I told them how I busted it. Won't do that again.

Then back in my teen years I broke several in car doors, stepping on them while bank fishing, falling down steep banks, etc.etc.etc........... all the stupid things kids do to brake stuff.
