so the other day i spooled my 51mg with 10' yo-zuri hybrid and went out to the lake for the day... That day i broke 2 lucky crafts during the cast what happened?? this never happened to me before, but it is the first time i used 10' yozuri.. i was throwing a bds 3 crank and a 100 pointer which arn't that very big or heavy...  And just yesterday to add i broke 2 rigs carolina rig with a lizard.  i have used 12' yozuri on my 51mg and it works well i didn't think going to 10' would be a mistake, what a lession i learned...  Anyone have this reel spooled up with something else that does the job?? any help is appreciated. st.croix mf 7'/51mg, light lures, weightless plastics thats all i use sometime carolina rig, would i be better of switching to 10' pline cxx for the strength or what would you guys recommend??

I 've got one of mine spooled with 8 lb Hybrid, no problems whatsoever.

I have my 51MG spooled up with 10lbs Yo-Zuri on a 6' 6" M/F St Croix Avid and use it for top water and jerk baits and have never had any issues with it at all.  Maybe you got a bad spool, not sure.

Wow!

That's really surprising. I use #4 through #15 on various

rigs and have never had a problem with breakage. Be sure

to check you equipment with a Q-tip for anything suspicious,

both guides and your reel. If you don't find a problem, throw

away the line or take it back for exchange.

For alternative line, these are some I have found to be

comparable substitutes: Gamma and Sunline Shooter Defier.

Many of our members fish Trilene XL, XT and Big Game.

P-Line CXX is very popular and some of the strongest line

made.

So, your problem with the line is very unusual, but there are

plenty of alternatives to try. However, if it were me, I would

simply ask your retailer to exchange what you have left for a

replacement spool of Hybrid.

im pretty much confused to why this happened because i hear so much good things about yozuri, but then when i lost 2 LC in the same day i wasn't so sure if it was a wise idea to buy it again.. i know for a fact the 12# works well, but maybe its like you guys said i got a bad spool of it, i know my brother is using 10# also, but his is on a spinning rod and it hasn't broken on him yet only once when it tangled and knotted up on him other than that it hasn't broken off any lures yet..  ill probably just stick with cxx it has more memory than yozuri but its strong as heck.

did you backlash?  One of the few complaints about hybrid is that if you get a kink (as often happens in a backlash) it will break there on a subsequent cast.

Bingo!

Geez...Must not be hitting on all cylinders today. That is the most

probable cause. Kinks become weak links and VERY obvious in the

line. Line with a weak spot must be removed.

the thing is i didn't even get a chance to backlash when i broke my lucky crafts because it was brand new line.  I just recently came back from clear lake with 12# yozuri and it did excellent there, i decided to switch to 10# when i got back because i wanted a little bit more line in my spool, so i definately know its not the backlash i think i got a bad spool of it, i can accept the carolina rig's breaking because of the line hitting trees, etc. underwater but not the LC especially when they wern't even deepdivers, im just probably going to stick with 12# yozuri if i do decide to go back to it i just spooled up my chronarch with 10# cxx hopefully it'll do the job

10 and 12 work fine on that reel here. I think we can all agree you got a bad spool. I wouldn't abandon the 10# though. Maybe get a new spool and throw a less expensive lure. I actually prefer 10 to 12. CXX is great stuff too.

Assuming you're not breaking at the knot....

#10 Gamma is very manageable on spinning gear, so it should be great on a casting reel.  You really have to work to break it.  (I get lots of snags fishing from the banks)  If you're looking to be more stealthy than YZ-US #12, it may be the way to go.  The "clear" actually appears to be fairly clear and not excessively milky or gray.  With the buy 2 get 1 free rebate, the price isn't quite as painful...
