How many of you carry spare spools with different line weight.

Bought a couple of extra spools to take with me. Spooling up with different weight of line. Hope this will take the place of carrying another rod.

Anyone here do this?   I know you have to stop and spend a few minutes changing things out, but in situation where I don't have room for another rod, I am hoping that this works.

I do that for my spinning reels, but I don't have different line strengths on them, I have one with braid (if I wanted to drop shot) and one with flouro (for shakyhead and other finesse tactics).

For my spinning I have spare spools, that range from 4# to 8 # test. My main spool has 8# so I have a spare to duplicate that if nessesarry.

I carry one extra spool for one reel with 10 lb Fireline on it which I prefer for some specific apps.

I used to do this until I realized I never, ever, never, ever, never, ever, used the spare spool.  Besides, the bait monkey requires a rod and reel for every spool.  ;D

To me, that would cost a tad bit of money if I am constiently changing line for different situations. Over time, getting another rod/reel would be cheaper than always changing line for different situations.

    I know you said you didn't have enough room for another rod/reel but you will be using up a load of money if you are always changing.  Search around your boat, you might be able to find enough room for a few rod/reels.

The spools I got were only $6.50 each......a rod and a reel cost a bit more than that.

I always have a couple extra spools of lighter line with me when I travel, never know when you'll run into clearer water and want to downsize.  I also carry one spooled with braid, jic.

I do carry spools with different line test, hardly ever use them but better having and not needing than needing and not having.

I have extra spools for both spinning and baitcasting gear.  I fish as a non boater in my club.  By using the extra spools, I effectively carry well over a dozen setups, but only four or five combos.

A tip for spinning reels: check your "free" spare spool.  If it is a single felt washer setup as opposed to the three felt washer setup in many mid level and higher reels, then use the spare with braid, and the main spool with mono, copoly, fluoro.  The reasoning would be that you are using the drag with braid to protect the reel gears and the rod, while with the light line, you want the precision drag to protect from breakoffs.

I got three spools.   That is all I need. Over time......I get double or triple for that. :-)

why would you buy 100 spools...all he is doing is carrying extra spools incase he wants to go up or down in line weight....you have to change line on any rod and reel...this is a good way to save space like he is trying to do...i carry extra spools for night tournaments mainly...why its still day light i will use the flurocarbon..then switch to the fluorescent to work with the black light after dark...very useful and the spools came with my stradics when i bought them..i have never bought a spinning reel that didnt come with a spare spool...

I do...but not different line size.

I'm glad i did,i fish a river system full of snags,rocks and sharp wire.All from retie and break offs.I've emptied a spool of line in 4 hours.Just switch the spool and I'm ready to go again.

I keep two spools for my stradic 2500.  One with 8lb mono for bass/specks on the lakes and one with 20lb braid when i head to the inter-coastal mangroves for reds.
