Dixon Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Me and my buddies have experienced major problems with this line. Im talking about trying the set the hook and line just breaking. Casting a spinnerbait and there goes your spinnerbait. We all know how to fish pretty decent and can tie a good knot. The line is just breaking. Has anyone else experienced problems with this line? It has been awful for me. Quote
Big-O Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hey Dixon, I am a braid user exclusively unless I have to fish days in clear water. I have had that same problem with two major brands and have gone to Suffix braid exclusively. Have yet to have a problem with it and that's been a couple of years. Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
EastTexasBassin Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Hey Big O, is the other major brand that you're referring to PowerPro? I saw a post somewhere else where you were discouraging its use. I haven't had any problems with it so far, but I was just wondering. Quote
bigfish88 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I think it's absolutely awful just like you bro. Nothing but problems with that line. I'm a suffix fan when it comes to braid. Quote
Dixon Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 What kind of Suffix Big O? That line is just terrible. I lost some of your rage lizards because of it plus the freakin hooks. I am sure Suffix has a tone of different types. What do you like? Quote
dmac14 Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Suffix performance braid.. Also give fireline braid a shot, Someone recommended it on here and I have been using it with no problems yet. Its very round and smooth. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 15, 2009 Super User Posted June 15, 2009 Dixon, what pound test braid are you having breakoffs with? My guess is that you buy the line accordng to the strength rather than the diameter. Quote
Dixon Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 15 to 20 lb test. I just emailed spiderwire. Cant wait to see if I get a response. Going to take it off my poles and try Suffix I guess. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 15, 2009 Super User Posted June 15, 2009 Dixon, the diameters of those lines are 6# or less mono. Certainly you would not use 6# mono when fishing spinnerbaits and plastic worms (guessing medium heavy rods). Small diameter braids have very little shock strength. Backlashes when casting spinnerbaits or violent hook sets with Tx rigs will snap those small lines. You should use at least 50# superlines for those applications with baitcasters (12# mono diameter) and back off on the hookset motion and drag setting. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 Suffix performance braid..Also give fireline braid a shot, Someone recommended it on here and I have been using it with no problems yet. Its very round and smooth. Yup, i have both spooled on two worm rods using them back o back! I like both but Suffix is a little stronger IMO! Quote
Dixon Posted June 15, 2009 Author Posted June 15, 2009 Wayne you are speaking over my head. lol Can you advise what line I should be using for texas rigging and for also spinnerbaits or crankbaits. You saying 50 lb spiderwire. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 15, 2009 Posted June 15, 2009 I would STAY AWAY from SpiderWire if i where you(SUCKS)! The line size depends a lot on the cover you are fishing! Since braid is so thin in diameter and limp, i would never use anything under 30lb line. For fishing cover like i do here in FL, i use 65lb braid! Quote
