DINK WHISPERER Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 strip it off and put on 65 lb fireline braid.no color bleed on your reels and no digging.hardly any noise through the guides compared to the other 2. Look here dodge guy, i am going to order some right now and it better be as good as you say it is!!!!!!!!!!! Sounds too good to be true! How do i know which to order? I tried FireLine Crystal once(hated it) is that the same thing? Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 7, 2009 Super User Posted June 7, 2009 fireline came out years ago and it's a fused line not a braid.it frays and unravels terribly.they recently came out with fireline braid.it is new and says braid on the box.crystal is just white fireline with all the same issues.you sound like a brand new braid user so let me tell you that braid is a completely different animal.it requires changing the way you fish because it has no stretch and is limp.i have used braid for approx. 16 years now and have been through a lot of different brands.none of them are perfect.i truely believe berkley got it right with the new fireline braid.i feel it's as good as it gets with braid.here's a picture of the box.they also make a tracer braid with alternating colors so you can see it better.i personally don't like the idea but others may.i can fill 4 narrow spool baitcasters with a 300 yard box of 65 pound test.that's around 10 bucks a reel. DINK WHISPERER Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 Yes sir, you are correct! I am brand new to braid. After loosing the fish of a lifetime with fluorocarbon i made the switch! I will try this FileLine though! Also, will braid cut into Alconite Fuji guides? THANKS Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 7, 2009 Super User Posted June 7, 2009 no it will not cut into alconite guides or sic guides.i have a johnny morris elite with recoil guides on it that i keep checking.i've heard of issues with recoils and powerpro but i have not had any yet.with braid you don't have to gorilaa set hooks and i suggest you loosen your drag a bit.the no stretch can break rods with gorilla sets and it can straighten and put holes in a bass's mouth during a fight.you might want to use superline hooks in heavy cover. DINK WHISPERER Posted June 7, 2009 Author Posted June 7, 2009 I was absolutely amazed by this today! I was using SuperLine Gamakatsu hooks in heavy cover and i just kinda pulled up and hooked the hawg just right! Well, i ordered two spools of the FirlLine for me and my brother just now! I will post more reviews next weekend! Hope you are right about this stuff! THANKS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
ToledoEF Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I have tried a lot of stuff, fireline original(its ok wont use it again) Stren sonic braid(pretty good stuff) Power Pro(old spool from a friend worked pretty good), Spiderwire(old school stuff was ok) and the camo braid its ok as well, I am going to try the new fireline braid most likely in 30# since we dont have any cover here worth 50 or 65! DINK WHISPERER Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Okay, i finally received the Berkley FireLine braid yesterday! I will say that i am not impressed! It is no better or worse than the Power Pro or Suffix i was using. It is significantly smaller diameter for the same lb test and a little limper than the other two. But it is also weaker and less abrasion resistant IMO. It makes the same noise coming through the guides and leaks the same(if not more) green color all over everything! I guess i am just in shock on all the negatives of braid because i am new to it! But it does give me that extra piece of mind when i hook a pig in the slop! THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!! EXCEPT for dodgeguy who made me spend even more $ on braid..............LOL, just kidding guy!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
mase088 Posted June 14, 2009 Posted June 14, 2009 Power Pro, Suffix, NOT FIRELINE. 50# or 65# I hate to say I told you so but.... ;D. I used Power Pro for a while, then Big Game, but now I've settled on 20# P-Line CXX crystal clear. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted June 14, 2009 Author Posted June 14, 2009 Well it's not the same stuff as the old FireLine! It is better than Power Pro though! But not as good as Suffix! Quote

It is no better or worse than the Power Pro or Suffix i was using. You just said it wasn't better or worse, as well as listing complaints about fireline that I've never had with Power Pro. So how does that mean its better than Power Pro? Either way, my suggestion for you would be P-line CXX in 20# or 25#. Incredible breaking strength, much better than BPS Flouro. And you don't have to deal with all the things about braid that you dislike, which seems to be a lot. Quote
