fishnaddiction Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 the only time i use flukes are in the heat of summer when the bass are schooling or just wont hit other baits i use a natural cheek chub color in clear water which is white with some black and green on its back if the water is murky or stained i usally dont fish flukes but the color they will hit for me is a white or chartaruse i try to keep the fluke right up top if the water is murky or stained Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 16, 2007 Super User Posted December 16, 2007 Clear water - White Murky water - White and Watermelon Muddy water - I don't use one But the best thing to do is let the fish tell you what they want. A fluke can be fished so many different ways and year round. I have some lakes where the fish prefer Watermelon no matter what color the water. The fish on my home lake will only hit white. There is no obvious reason for it but that is all they want. Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 17, 2007 Super User Posted December 17, 2007 I love Assassins and Flukes. Never could see any situations where color was a big deal. But I'd try your white ice in clear water and try a dark color in darker water. Quote
tallydude Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I've had a lot of luck with the Rainbow Shad color in clear water. Just remember a general rule- white and translucent colors in clear water, and darker colors in muddy water. Quote
Bass XL Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I have never had any luck fishing flukes in dark/muddy watter...they just dont put off enough vibrations....at least not enough for my likings Quote
castaway Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I use white and bubblegum. Bubblegum is a dynamite smallmouth color. Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 19, 2007 Author Posted December 19, 2007 We dont have smallmouths down where I live. Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 22, 2007 Author Posted December 22, 2007 I just bought a pack of these in white pearl so hopefully they will work in the pond I fish at sometimes. Quote
fathom Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 they don't call 'em "smoking shad" for nothing! Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 22, 2007 Super User Posted December 22, 2007 White ice is a great all around color, I catch fish with it in water that has 20 feet of clarity or 6" of clarity, doesn't matter, they find it. Quote
norm2525 Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I always start with a pearl colored one. They see a million of them and are still dumb to them. I also like the smoke shad, albino and arkansas shiner. I have not experimented with the watermelon one but I am sure they would work. Quote
Tpayneful Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 I have had good luck in clear and slightly stained water with the "Smoking Shad" color. I have not had much luck on the albino for some reason. I don't throw them in muddy water. My favorite situation is to throw them after in rains at a inflowing creek, drain or culvert. When the fish are active this bait slayes them. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 23, 2007 Super User Posted December 23, 2007 I only use the pearl white color in all water conditions. I'm attempting to "match the hatch" and just plain white does that as much as any other color. Quote
krisjack69 Posted December 29, 2007 Author Posted December 29, 2007 How do u fish these things,Do u keep the pole down and twitch it or do have your rod up and pop it like a worm or senko. Quote
flippin Posted December 29, 2007 Posted December 29, 2007 i use white or smokin shad drop shot or split shot Quote
