Bank1128 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 its on sale for $39 and jus wondering if its a reliable baitcasting reel?... getting into baitcasting for the first time so dont know much about the reels and i cant afford to spend much more than this... Quote
lineslinger Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Some folks have had problems with BPS extremes, but, I've got 4 of them and never had a problem. Bought an older one on Ebay and it had some drag issues, so I sent it to their reel service center and they repaired it gratus! Can't beat the price and should provide good service. Quote

CFFF 1.5 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 for $39.00 I would buy a couple. I have around 5 or 6 BPS reels and I have never had a problem with any of them and I absolutely love them. Quote
old bassman Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I have an older BPS Extreme reel which I was told was made by Pfluger and I have had no trouble with it over 6 seasons of fishing. My 2 cents!!! Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 You're not going to find a better reel at that price. Quote

bigtimfish Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I know a guy who says that the ONLY brand he will fish. he feels the same about the rods also. Quote
bassprofishguy Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 first bc i ever got and learned on....treated me well and its still going strong today.for the price and your first go for it,just buy some mid level line to learn on dont wanna go birdnesting and cutting up expensive line, just set the brakes right and get yourself a casting plug and have at it after a couple casts youll get the feel for it hardest part is learning when and how to thumb the spool but youll get it ...good luck and have fun with it. Super User Muddy Posted May 28, 2009 Super User Posted May 28, 2009 where are you buying bps extreme reels for $39.00 On the BPS Site. They have 4 lefties currently but have been switching up clearance every 9 or 10 days. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I go on the bps site almost daily and haven't seen them on sale for a few weeks at least. I see them now. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 28, 2009 Super User Posted May 28, 2009 They are still there. Go to Clearance, fresh water fishing, then reels, then bait cast, on the left hand side there are several reels in a box, one of them is the old extreme. They have been on sale for about 4 or 5 weeks now. Like I said the lefties are up now, same as a couple of weeks ago, then they put up different models in right. There have been a lot of used ones on the flea market here for the same 40 as a new one is currently going for. Quote
Cracker Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 I picked out thier BPS Extreme combo for 100 bucks a few weeks ago and I love it, I am a beginner myself and it has been a good reel to learn on, mine hass the flippin switch by the crank handle. like others have said for that price pick one up right away Quote

bassprofishguy Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 one quick warning no biggie though sometimes to open the side cover of bps reels you have to press in the little basspro logo and turn the cover counterclock wise sometimes this button can be hard to push in,if so give it a lil squirt of wd-40 ive also heard giving it a lil soak in mild warm water will help to,but just a heads up. Bank1128 Posted June 12, 2009 Author Posted June 12, 2009 UPDATE: Just wanted to thank u guys again for the info... got my reel last week and have taken it out a few times... i started practicing with it in my backyard and got pretty good, but naturally once i was out on the water i kept gettin too excited and would cast way too hard and got some nice tangles haha but nothing too bad... been working on keeping more control... overall I'm loving the Xtreme reel.. it casts like a charm when i take my time and slow down... like you guys said for $39 i think its an unbeatable reel 8-) Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 12, 2009 Super User Posted June 12, 2009 worth every penny Quote
