jhow2319 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Hey guys, can you use Yo-Zuri hybrid on a baitcaster or would it be wise to just use it on to spinning gear as a replacement for fluorocarbons? What lb. test/diameter would you recommend for each of the above reels (spinning/casting)? Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 6, 2009 Super User Posted June 6, 2009 Yo Zuri Hybid is perfect for baitcasters. In smaller diameters, it works well on spinning reels. Yo Zuri Hybrid is much stronger than its rated test (12lb test breaks at 19.5 lbs). I use 8lb Hybrid on my Daiwa Sol baitcaster for light cranks and topwaters. I use 10lb with my Daiwa Fuego baitcasters for medium cranks and lighter soft plastics. I also use 10lb on my cranking rig for deep cranks. I use 12lb on my heavier plastics baitcasting rigs. And I use 15lb on my flipping and frog baitcasting rigs. For all round us (except frogs and flipping) 10 lb or 12lb works great. I don't go above 8lb on my spinning outfits. Not because they can't handle it, but because of its a technique that requires heavier tackle, I use a baitcaster. Quote
dmac14 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 It would work fine, I have it on my Crankbait set up and it does just fine. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 6, 2009 Super User Posted June 6, 2009 I too use yozuri on my spinning, and baitcasters..10lb on my baitcaster for lighter lures, and plastic's..12 lb on my swimbait baitcaster, and 8 lb on my spinning, and the reason I go 8 lb, is cuz we have lots of big ole rocks and stuff that can cause some serious abbrassion. I have been using yozuri for only about 1 month or so, and wouldn't even consider anything else at this point. btw, I use the ultrasoft. Quote
Beale_Bass Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Road Warrior advised me to get it, so I bit the bullet and bought 1200 yards (I went a little nuts). No complaints, and I won't be using anything else. That stuff is as smooth as ice! Quote
Bama_Bass_Tracker Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 What's the secret to casting this stuff?? I've tried it (12lb test) and back lashed just about every time. I still have an unused spool so I may try again, I now use Sufix Siege 12lb green, or Trilene Big Game 12lb green. I have 4 bait casters all Pinacle, 2 Sentara's 1 Vision vst10, and 1 pro series LP100. Any advice would help. Thanks, Bill Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 6, 2009 Super User Posted June 6, 2009 Bama..All I can tell you is what I've expienced, which is I buy the 275 yd spools, the second spool I got did the same thing yours did after 1 cast, I had to cut the line. I then went and bought another spool of 12lb and it was fine, could have been a really old spool or something..? Now I spool up one of my baitcasters with 10 lb, and my other with 12, no problems so far, and I don't even usr my KVD line conditioner on them..So maybe try another spool. Quote
adclem Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 I have Yo-Zuri Hybrid on 2 of my BCs, in 12lbs test. I sprayed the line with KVD as I spooled up the reels and that was it. I do dpary KVD on them once a month, but I am not sure they need it. For spinning gear I prefer the Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft in 8lbs test, treated the same way as I do the line on my BCs. Later, Quote
midnighthrasher Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 baitcasters 12lb spinning gear 8lb YoZuri is good stuff Quote
BassmanfromNC Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 What color do you guys prefere? Clear or green? and why Quote
dmac14 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Green because it was the only one available to me at the time. I dont think it really matters too much, I would say green for most situations unless the water you fish is clear enough to drink. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 6, 2009 Super User Posted June 6, 2009 I have both the clear, and the green mist..I can see the green mist much better when it's out of water, plus RW said it works better or something..? lol The clear I have because they were out of green in 10 lb..anywho, I prefer the green mist, cuz these Old eyes ain't what they use to be,,lol Quote
Jare Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Hi guys, do you like the Yozuri Hibrid more than the Pline Floroclear for a baitcast setup? Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted June 7, 2009 Super User Posted June 7, 2009 I've used almost every brand of line, except pline, so take this witha grain of salt...Yes, I like the yozuri best. Imho, where I fish I've had good luck with it..doesn't stretch like mono, has low memory, and is pretty dang strong. Consider where you fish, and the type of fishing you do..obviously some types of fishing require braid ect, i.e. flippin in heavy brush ect. Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 7, 2009 Super User Posted June 7, 2009 Flipping in heavy brush does not require braid. Neither does fishing frogs in heavy weeds. I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid 15lb for both of these techniques. Yo-Zuri may not "cut" through weeds like braid, but it also doesn't tangle around things like braid does. Quote
Rand Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Yo zuri hybrid is lights out. I use and have used it on lots of reels. Spinning and casting. Its great. Dont really know that color matters. Just ask roadwarrior. He swears by it and fishes it a lot. Says that color makes no difference. Rand Quote

Any advice would help. Thanks, Bill I've been using Yozuri for a couple months. It's a stiffer line similar to Trilene's XT. It doesn't come off the spool as cleanly as say a regular monofilament line or a copoly. Treat your line with a conditioner like KVD line conditioner. Let it really soak in. You should be fine. Quote
tennwalkinghorse Posted June 8, 2009 Posted June 8, 2009 I use 8lb. on my spinning reel and 12lb on B/C KVD is a must JMHO Quote
