Mid-MO Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I've been using flurocarbon on almost all of my reels for the past 3 years. I've decided to try something different on at least one reel. Looking for something that is 1) abrasion resistant 2) sensitive 3) has low memory 4) has good knot strength. I've got some P-Line CX Premium and some Evolution. Heard some good things about the Viscious copolymer. Anyone got any suggestions? Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Stay away from viscious that stuff is junk. P=Line is going to be your best bet. It does have some memory but will make up for it where it counts. Not too sure about Evolution, have some but not used it. CX is great line, a little more manageable than CXX but CXX will uproot trees in larger sizes. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 P-Line CXX in 15#, pre treated with KVD L&L. Quote
TxBuddha Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 P-Line CX in 15# tests out at over 20 and is my current "default" line. No need for the CXX with strength like that but having said that I use CXX 17# with KVD as main line on my c-rig rods. Loves me some P-Line! Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 CX is great line, a little more manageable than CXX but CXX will uproot trees in larger sizes. 12 lb test CXX will uproot a stump, with more you can uproot the entire tree. And we ain 't kiddin ', it 's true ! Quote
Bronzefly Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 I'm also on the P-Line CXX band wagon... it's incredibly tough stuff and reasonably priced. I've recently tried out some 100% Nylon Sunline Shooter Defier in 22lb test and it is incredible stuff. Virtually no memory and smooth as silk. It is a "class line" meaning that it breaks at the actual rating. It is only slightly smaller in diameter than P Line CXX 15lb... it's expensive, but its pretty amazing stuff... The Sunline Super Natural mono in 20lb is the same diameter as PLine CXX 15lb and is much more manageable as well. I haven't put in alot of time with this line, but plan to soon... Quote
twitchfish Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 So impressed with with CXX and not with Floro (trying 17# [all they had at the time] 100% Berkely) on my jig rod, seriously considering switching to 8# or 10# CXX on my jig rig. It is THAT strong. Twitch Quote

Super User burleytog Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 CXX 17 lb. test, Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG Superline hook. Line wouldn't break, bent the handle on my net trying to break the line. Pulled up a 5" diameter 12' long log. Quote
FishDontLikeMe1301600221 Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 My fishin buddy caught a 16" goodyear tire mudd vegatation and all on 17# cxx, hook was straight as a nail needled into the tire,no worries though it was safely landed and released Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 CXX 17 lb. test, Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG Superline hook.Line wouldn't break, bent the handle on my net trying to break the line. Pulled up a 5" diameter 12' long log. 12 feet?!? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 It was almost as long as my boat. Like I said, it was heavy enough to bend the handle on my net. I've destroyed a ton of brushpiles by yanking on them with 15 and 17 lb. CXX. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 I tried CXX a while ago but it was just too unmanageable for me. I was using light line for a spinning reel and found I preferred Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft or Maxima Perfexion. Those are copolys right? Quote

Super User Raul Posted June 3, 2009 Super User Posted June 3, 2009 CXX 17 lb. test, Gamakatsu 5/0 EWG Superline hook.Line wouldn't break, bent the handle on my net trying to break the line. Pulled up a 5" diameter 12' long log. I have absolutely no reason to doubt it after I pulled a log with mine, log must have weighted 20 lbs easily. Quote
Super User Micro Posted June 4, 2009 Super User Posted June 4, 2009 Is there a P-Line equivalent to Yo-Zuri Hybrid? I love Yo-Zuri, but the only place near me that carries it is BPS and they have a dwindling supply and they don't seem to be restocking it. And Tackle Warehouse doesn't carry it anymore. So I'm eventually going to need to find an alternative. My BPS has tons of P-Line products. Quote

I'm talking about the Hybrid, not the Ultra Soft. Quote
Mid-MO Posted June 4, 2009 Author Posted June 4, 2009 What type of knot are you all tying with P-line CX Premium?? Quote
Super User burleytog Posted June 4, 2009 Super User Posted June 4, 2009 What type of knot are you all tying with P-line CX Premium?? Palomar. Be sure to cinch using the tag end rather than the mainline. CX is quite prone to burning. Quote
The_Natural Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I love CXX as well. However, you chose 'low memory' as a property you desire. The CXX users have pretty much come to terms with the fact CXX is a no-nonsense line that is unforgiving. That said....CX Premium is CXX's half-brother. It is fluorocarbon coated, yet has incredible knot strength....something fluoroclear can't boast. I think you would be impressed with 20lb CX Premium for pitchin'/flippin'. Don't be scared of the 20lb; CX is rated true to test like the Japanese lines (granted Pline comes from Japan) and is thinner than 14lb Trilene XT. 20lb CX Premium is equivalent in strength to 15lb CXX, and won't let you down. Hope that helps..... Quote

Super User Micro Posted June 4, 2009 Super User Posted June 4, 2009 I looked for it last night and it was gone from their lines page. I even searched for it. Phew! Quote
