JL Zingg Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Baitcast Reels - I know the adage is "If one works for you than stick with it." Which I will stick with the Quantum Energy PT, my first and one I love everything about (I now have 4). But, JUST out of curiosity, what is the main or applicable differences between the Quantums and other much more expensive ones, $250 and higher? At BPS I've handled the Diawa's, Shimano's, Abu Garcia's and others. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Design, engineering, machining, craftsmanship and components. From a "fishing" perspective: ergonomics and style; casting distance and control; smooth retrieve; strong drag system with consistent release; dependability, overall performance and longevity; customer service and warranty. We have many members that fish Quantum, but very few who have switched to that brand after fishing other reels. The new generation Quantums may prove to be fine reels, but history would suggest otherwise. 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 2, 2009 Super User Posted June 2, 2009 Not to compare any 2 reels directly, but in general terms: I've found the better reels are smoother, better casting (distance and control) have smoother drags, are often lighter (physical weight), feel solid and tight and are a joy to use. Now the most important thing to remember here is that the above list has little effect on putting fish in the boat. (although you could argue drag or cast placement, etc.) It's kind of like cars... some just prefer a high end luxury car and some are fine with a old pick up... and both will get you there. Quote
