I am wanting setup a spinning rod for shaky head ,wacky rig etc. I am wanting to know what is the best rod power and line for this combo. Do i need a med or med heavy rod? Should I go with flouro line or braid with flouro leader. What lb test? Wanting a good all around combo. Mainly will be fishing clear water with heavy grass and stumps

Welcome aboard!

Medium Power/ Fast Action. I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 (.010" diameter,

11.9 lb test). To suggest specific equipment, we need to know how much

do you want to spend?

I have the rod and reel in mind. I was just wondering what power rod and line would be best. Thanks

As far as line, try the McCoy's Mean Green,  that stuff is awesome, by new go to line for spinners.

Well power depends on which brand you are looking at. St Croix's power is different from G Loomis' which is different than shimanos. But I would say MH Fast action, with 6# Hybrid. Or if its ultra clear and not a lot of heavy cover you might be able to go down to 4# hybrid.

If your wanting a rod in a lower price range, I could recomend the Shimano Clarus..med or mh power and fast action.

I also would agree that yozuri ultrasoft in 6 or 8 lb would be good.

Rod power depends greatly on where you plan to fish, I fish from an UL to a MH, from 6 lb to 17 lb test line, so there 's no "right" nor "wrong" way to do it.

Are you using ultra-soft or the straight up hybrid? I'm wondering if I really need the ultra-soft for a spinning reel.

I ain 't RW but I can answer your question, no, you don 't "need" Ultra Soft, RW recommends it because it 's thinner diamater than straight up Hybrid for the same pound test and Ultra Soft is more user friendly ( coils a lot less ) than straight up Hybrid.

I prefer the ultrasoft. And even though RW recomends using KVD line conditioner, I never have..the ultrasoft works great w/o it imho.

Also, if your fishing stained water or anything other than ginclear, try the green mist yozuri, seems to work better than the clear for visabilty. That's another thing RW talked me into..LOL

I use a Medium Berkeley Lightning Rod & 30lb PowerPro braid w/ a fluorocarbon leader. I don't think I could ask for a better setup. You have the strength, sensitivity and casting qualities of the braid and the invisibility of the fluoro.

my experience with Yo-zuri ultra-soft in 4 lb. test is that it's WAAAAY too stretchy , hook sets are a task . i would go up to 6 lb. test if not 8 lb. just my opinion......
