bigtimfish Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I am not a Shimano guy, but my dad has a Cardiff and it feels cool. i threw it a few times this weekend and the way it felt when i was reeling felt like when you have something huge on your line and your reeling, but nothings coming in. like when you dont have your drag set at all. it felt so cool though. was it just that smooth? are all shimano reels like that? bassprofishguy Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 yeppers....smooth assss butter...thats why shimanos got the rep they do,that oh so good silky smoothness!!!makes ya kinda wanna jump on over to the shimano side huh haha. and 5-10 yrs from now if well taken care of itll still be that smooth...its mind boggling how they most of the time have less bearings then the other guys but theyre reels are so much smoother and silkier...next time you go to a bps or something grab your fav brand then walk over with it and pick up a shimano that butter feel will be the same with line on that shimano might not beable to say the same for that other brand. i have alot of brands all but quantum but nuttin tops a shimano for quality smoothness service and warranty. Super User flechero Posted May 26, 2009 Super User Posted May 26, 2009 and the cardiff isn't very smooth by shimano standards. Quote

Sounds like the reel has a slight bind to it (older un serviced reel). That doesn't sound like butter smooth to me...Butter smooth is when you crank the reel and it feels like you can't crank fast enough to keep up with it. Tight Lines!!! Quote
SDoolittle Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 I've had a Cardiff for a couple of years. Great reel for a decent price. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted May 27, 2009 Super User Posted May 27, 2009 Sounds more like the spool tension is set really high. Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 28, 2009 Super User Posted May 28, 2009 its about 2 months old hes used it maybe 1 other time. brand new It was purchased two months ago, which doesn 't mean it 's two months old, the reel may have been purchased only two months ago but you don 't know when it was manufactured, the reel may have been sitting in various shelves for months and even a good couple of years when the newest version was released. That 's why Reel Mech says: older unserviced reel. Quote
