ok i had 2 problems with my reel..

1) my handle was messed up (could crank backwards causing handle to fall off)

2) the reel was grinding when i was reeling in weight.. even when lubed.. (whether it be fish or weeds)..

wow did they oil the crap out of my reel.. it is just drenched in hot sauce and had a clear greasy substance all over the body of the reel that smelled like gasoline..

has anyone had a similar experience? do these idiot not know what they're doing? they fixed the handle fine but i still dont know if the grinding problem has been solved.. i will find out tomorrow.. but seriously, it is ridiculous the amount of oil and grease they put on.. and also the "gasoline" like substance..

i was holding off on sending any of my reels to RM til the end of the season to save on shipping.. but this one may need to go in sooner..

that stinks. id assume the reel would be better than new after factory rehab.

Let me know how your warranty experience works out.  I recently bought a Energy PT and after about 30-40 cast it started to grind on every cast.  Never had a reel do that to me before.  Kinda reluctant to send it in yet.  Will definitely be anxious to hear what they did your reel.

tradequities,

How long did they (Quantum) have the reel. That's why they are listed last on the reels I service in my tag line. Not only lousy CS when reels are sent in, but lousy CS when I call for parts....

Like the others, I will be real interested to hear how the reel is in a fishing situation...

Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

quantum had the reel for 1 or 2 days.. i was really surprised at the quick service.. i used it today and it did stop grinding when reeling in weight.. although i couldnt put it to a full test.. just light use...

i had to use 2 or 3 paper towels to wipe away all the excess hot sauce before using it and a little was still dripping out when it was in use today..

one other minor gripe.. i sent this thing in pretty much flawless condition.. came back with minor scratches on the titanium deposition finish... which it definitely did not have before going in

they did solve my problems though..  for now

They probably put all that Hot Sauce on there so that your problem would be fixed and not have to worry about it again.  I wouldn't be worried about all the grease if it fixed the problem.

I would hope this isn't the case, but did they send you the same reel back?
I was about to ask the same question. Did they just swap a returned reel for yours. There would have been a way to tell for sure. I caught a couple of the major mfg's doing just that back in the late 90's. I had a couple of different reels come in and we couldn't service them, sent them off with our service markers internally and when we got the reel's back they didn't have our service markers in them, (yes Quantum was one of them)..
wow did they oil the crap out of my reel.. it is just drenched in hot sauce and had a clear greasy substance all over the body of the reel that smelled like gasoline..
The reason for the slick heavy petroleum feel/smell on the outside is probably because of the over oiling of the reel internally, and the seeping of Hot Sauce to the outside.. This was the only way they could keep the red dye from staining the outside of the reel.

1. That's not how it works...A little too much is way too much.

2. Sure sounds like a switcheroo to me.

3. Try again, but talk with CS first to see if you can find someone

     that cares about your problem.

thats what happens when you buy quantum, some learn the hard way.that warranty is good as garbage as is quantum and theyre customer service....good luck youll need it...go buy a zebco its still a quantum, at a cheaper price.

That really stinks!  I would most definitely be calling them every day till I got the answer I was looking for and the problem resolved.

Best of luck!

Later, ;)

Wow, I see a lot of you people don't like Quantum. I realize you guys don't like their CS, but is there something else about Quantum that you do not like?

Personally I only fish Quantum, I think they make top notch stuff.

And everyone made fun of Pflueger for sending customers new reels when they sent them in for warranty repairs...... :;)

Maybe a couple of ticks on the Lame - O - Meter there, but it seems like Quantum rung the bell on that one.

quantum...topnotch????? your kiddin right??? go on forums, store websites and read reviews of there stuff everyone seems to have problems with there stuff, breaks often for the prices paid and theryre cs yes is a HUGE problem/joke.they put about as much quality and effort as they do into theyre zebco reels...only 2 good things about quantum, hotsauce and KVD,other then that garbage.they need to step it up though cause all the other reel companies are i.e pflueger, abu and the top dogs daiwa & shimano sooner or later quantum will either bo sold out or go under or just flat out down the tubes if they dont quit puttin out junk that dont last a season or two.but eh to each his own

I agree and only primarily fish Quantum spinning and now baitcasting. I do have a couple of Diawa reels and even a Shimano but my Quantums see the most water time.

I haven't had problems with CS since when I have a problem I take the reel into my local shop and they send it into Quantum for repairs. That being said I purchased 3 reels off ebay which were in need of repairs, a Quantum Incyte spinning reel, a Quantum Accurist PT B/C and a Quantum Energy B/C. I took them in to the local shop and they sent them off to Quantum and 7-10 days later I had 3 New reels. I didn't mind at all that they sent new reels instead of making repairs. I haven't had a problem ordering parts i.e. handles and things.

So I guess it is to each his own but I do enjoy my Quantum products

Well, this kind of highlights the way a lot of people view Quantum:

Disposable Reels.

While I am a Quantum fan and have only had one issue with one of my reels, I'll throw this out there from a servicing side since I've been in the repair department for the company I work for (telecommunications field) for the last 12 years. We've had products, still under warranty, that come in for repair. From a cost effective point of view, its financially more effective to replace some units than simply repair the ones that come in. I will add this though, when a situation like that comes up here, the replacement unit is ALWAYS in as good of condition (if not better) when we send the unit back out to the customer. If I have a warranty repair with a Quantum reel I buy, I'll expect that same level of service.

Well, let us know how things work out.

I think we have had enough bashing for this round.

Good night Irene.
