BassinSoldier Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 WHAT THE HELL??!!!!! It was hard enough to come by a bite last night, but to add insult to injury, I had 2 break offs. I was fishing frogs in the slop with 50lb power pro. I had a perfect DOUBLE palomar knot tied each time I got broken off. One of the fish that broke off, judging by the head would have gone 5 or better...NOW...This is the second spool of power pro IN A ROW that has given me problems. I used to love the stuff but now I am getting kind of iffy about it. I know there are bad spools out there, but what are the chances of getting 2 bad spools in 2 consecutive purchases FROM DIFFERENT STATES!? With all of that said, what braid do most oy you guys prefer for heavy slop fishin'??? It may be time for me to make a change of brand. Quote
midnighthrasher Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I use powerpro 30lb and i love it. No problems here. If i were to change probably be for the suffix braid. Heard alot of good things about it. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted May 23, 2009 Super User Posted May 23, 2009 you MUST have gotten a bad spool , 50 lb. power pro can pull a horse , i actually went down to 30lb. and never had problems Quote
Chris Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 You may also have a bur on your rod, guide, reel spool, reel line guide, that has nicked the line. Also if you have no stretch in the line and your drag is winched down and your using a flipping stick for a rod, something has got to break. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 23, 2009 Super User Posted May 23, 2009 powrpro is outdated.get bekley's new fireline braid. Quote
Cracker Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 powrpro is outdated.get bekley's new fireline braid. It is just as good as when it first came out. It is the only line I like to use in heavy slop. I use 30-40# and cant remember ever braking off, even when I get hung up in tree cover really bad I usually just break whatever I am hooked into, not the line. Quote
Furbit Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 I to have had to many break offs with PP. I now use Stren Super Braid, if i can find it of which is getting harder since they stopped making it, or Stren Sonic Braid. Both are super strong and cast great. Quote
Fish Chris Posted May 23, 2009 Posted May 23, 2009 Hmmmmm. Judging by how many guys use / like Power Pro, it's probably just a fluke..... > However < I was given a spool of Power Pro about 10 years ago to try. It broke VERY easily ! Fortunately that was just on snags, and so it didn't cost me any fish. But I had already been experimenting with several different brands by then, which were NOT giving me similar problems, and so I knew it shouldn't be failing on me the way that spool was. A few years after that I tried TUF-Line, and have been using it ever since, with zero problems. Nowadays, I mostly use TUF-Line XP, to be exact. Peace, Fish Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 23, 2009 Super User Posted May 23, 2009 I would try to contact PP to see what they may do for you. From reading on this forum about how other major tackle companies have taken care of their customers, they may throw a free spool or something your way. If you don't tell them, they'll never know. Anything mass produced will have an issue now and then. Quote
