bigfish88 Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 what lines do you guys use and cast well with your baitcasters? Quote
Quitlimpin Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Trilene XL is a great all purpose line that handles really well. By far my favorite mono Quote
bpNClgmouth Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Really trust Suffix Elite... The new lo-vis green is great in staind water Quote
aarogb Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Trilene XL is a great all purpose line that handles really well. By far my favorite mono x2. That line is a very managable and far casting line. Use KVD Line and Lure Conditioner when spooling to make cast even further. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 I have used alot of lines, including triline xl...then there's this guy on here named Road Warrior...lol Anyhow, I have been using YoZuri Hybrid Ultrasoft for about the last month or so, and haven't switched brands yet, and I don't even spray it with KVD line conditioner. Oh have used both 10 and 12 lb test, cast's a tad better with the 10 lb. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 On the suggestion of my fishing parter Bruce and .ghotti. I made the switch over to Trilene Xl and I am more than pleased. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 fireline's new braid or cajun red cast. Quote
Cigarlover 1 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Like these guys said Trilene XL is a great all around line. Quote
Use ONLY Stren Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Stren Original for mono, or the new Stren Sonic braid is extremely manageable and limp. Quote
Cracker Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 WOW thats funny, I just logged on to make this exact same question to you guys. I had been using power pro 40# for a while and wanted to try a flouro, so I got some berkley vanish 20# and I think I should have gone with a 10-14# because I am having some problems casting it without getting a bunch of overrun on nearly every cast. I got the 20# because I get into a lot of thick stuff and I think this is part of my problem. Does the thinner line retain less memory? Quote
Quitlimpin Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Cracker-- Not sure about the memory in regards to diameter but i picked up some vanish on clearance at wally world last year in 12# and found it to be total garbage. For flouro I prefer trilene 100% or BPS Quote
Use ONLY Stren Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I agree with Chuck ive tried the Vanish and the Vanish Transition and in my opinion its horrible. Personally I use XPS flouro from BPS. Quote
S I G M A Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Vanish is pretty much the worst line i've ever used Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 X 2 Vanish is pretty much the worst line i've ever used Quote
paragon Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I've become a big fan of Suffix elite in the past 2 years. And I also spooled up some of the new stren sonic braid and it seems real good. Man, sometimes I think I could cast it a mile. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 I've gone back to 14# trilene XT. Quote
Cracker Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Okay guys, You pretty much made up my mind that it wasn't just me hating the line. At least I didnt pay too much for it. I was gonna give it a try for a bit and the try the BPS flouro if I coulndt get used to it, but now I think I am just going to switch asap. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test). 8-) Quote
Super User burleytog Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 Trilene XL is absolutely the most limp, memory-free line you can use. Quote
bobdogg17 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Has anyone used or tried P-line CXX?? I just spooled one of my baitcasters with it and took off the BPS XPS Flourocarbon, but I've only been out once so far with it. So far it felt pretty good, I should get a better feel this weekend. On my new baitcaster, I spooled it with PowerPro 50# braid and had a horrible experience on Sunday. Birds nest every other cast. It's the first time I tried braid on a baitcaster and I wasn't at all impressed so far. I have the same line on my spinning reel and love it. Plus the mono casted about 20-30' further than the braid on the casting reels. Has anyone else exprienced this with braid on their baitcasters? Might swap it out for mono if it doesn't improve.... :-/ Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 the thing with XL is you can move up a few pound test to get more abrasion resistance even though this line isnt known for this moving up makes a diff and you still get great handling/casting :::ex:: 17 pound instead of 14 14 instead of 10 10 instead of 6 and so on Quote
Cracker Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I was using 40# power pro, and got tired of backlash on every 8-10 casts but it is strong as snot and that is why I used it. When it would birdnest the tangle usually just pulled right out without much fuss Quote
Big Mike in Fl Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I use almost exclusively power pro, mostly 30lb, but I have rods with 15 all the way to 50lb test. if you're having an issue backlashing, its probably not the line, and I think you might continue to have the issue no matter what you use. I've gone to flouro on my flipping rod (20lb) because I feel like the flouro slides through the weeds better, and is easier to handle when flipping... right now its vanish, but that will change after friday when I get some BPS flouro, I've broken off vanish a few times and I don't like it. Super User burleytog Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 Has anyone used or tried P-line CXX?? The strongest, best nasty trash line on the market. Almost too strong. All I use in the summer. Quote
Big Country Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but I use Diamond Illusion line, 12# test. It is by far the best mono I've used on my baitcasters or spinning reels. It's super smooth, super tough and I can cast most baits a country mile. If you're looking for an excellent quality mono I highly recommend trying it. Only downfall is it can only be bought at Bass Pro Shops. Quote
