jenga Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I am new to using gps for fishing. I am tossed between buying the lowrance ifinder H2O or the Garmin GPSMAP 76 handhelds. Does anyone have any info on these or recommend one over the other. Also I recently bought the Hummingbird fishfinder 535. Is it a decent fishfinder. Any information would be great. Thanks, Jenga Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 24, 2007 Super User Posted December 24, 2007 Handheld GPS. I recommend the H2O as it is capable of utilizing a wider range of mapping software including Navionics. The H2Oc is even better if you want color at a slightly higher price. Quote
bmadd Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I'll be unwrapping an iFinder H2O tomorrow so I'll be able to give you my first impressions on it sometime tomorrow or Wed. Quote

If you're talking about the original 76 series than save your money, the memory is limited and it comes with a serial cable for data transfer. I don't think my computer even has one of those ports. That unit came out in '99. The 76Cx/CSx are totally different animals and much more $$ as well. I have been selling these units for 3+ years, there is no better gps unit than lowrance for fishing. links_man2 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I have been using a H2O for fishing for over a year and it selves my purpose well. Nice thing about it versus other brands is you can download the Free Enhanced Lake maps from Lowrance. They don't cover all lakes and they are not as detailed as the Navionics and such, but they are better than paper maps blowing around. Quote
Bass XL Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 I just did a search, b/c I'm looking to buy a gps for the lake, are the H2O maps detailed? Quote
