DINK WHISPERER Posted May 19, 2009 Author Posted May 19, 2009 I tried the Elite series and did not like them! I am however in the process of either getting the MossyBack or a custom rod with Loomis blank. Just got to find a reputable builder! Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 19, 2009 Super User Posted May 19, 2009 I or a custom rod with Loomis blank. Save your money... if what you said earlier about a flimsy tip is really how you feel, you probably won't like Loomis blanks. The tips are actually very light (we say delicate) for the power rods, and they are that way by design. If you want the heavier feeling tip, go St. Croix. Quote

What St. Croix would you recommend that has a stout backbone and stiff tip in the 7' range? I like the Mojo rods power and action but i want Fuji guides! Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 19, 2009 Super User Posted May 19, 2009 DW, I'm not up on the current lines components. (not sure which ones come with what guides) But for blanks- depending on how much backbone and tip you want... I use a 4C70HF blank as my t-rig rod. I built it for heavy t-rig and lakes with bigger fish and heavier cover but I've really grown fond of it for everyday use. It's a lot of backbone and tip- most here wouldn't like it for t-rigs. I had been planning to build either a 4C70MHF or a 5C70MHF to use as a primary t-rig rod but I'm re-thinking that now. I don't mind being overpowered for Belton fish, and I like using one rod for any t-rig situation. If I ever needed it, this rod will easily double as a c-rig, jig or frog rod with no trouble at all. You should contact Reel Mech to see if he has any 7' H blanks in stock... If he's taking internet orders these days, you'd be hard pressed to find a better builder or price. If he's not, maybe he'll build one as his next "rack rod" -Keith Quote

He said i would be better off finding a local builder to work with me! I believe he is building rods right now though. Do you build them? If you find the 4C70HF to much than it would be perfect for me. That is what i have been looking for the last 6 months or so! Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 19, 2009 Super User Posted May 19, 2009 Local is usually better, when it's an option. Have you looked at a 7' Heavy St. Croix at your local dealer and see if it feels right? That's where you should start. From there, you have the option of the factory rod or finding a builder... I do build- but not taking any orders these days. I'm hoping things will settle down and I can start again next year. If you have no luck finding someone locally, PM me and I'll make an inquiry for you. I know a guy that might be able to take on an additional client. (he builds part time) Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 19, 2009 Super User Posted May 19, 2009 DW, I am sorry if I came across like I didn't want to work with you. I also don't do business through PM's, you said you read my site but you never e-mailed me through the site and page I sent you to...... You also didn't like the burl we use and wanted standard cork. The site stated we only built in burl... Your PM's said you knew what you wanted (Loomis), I tried to explain that Loomis building blanks don't offer what you wanted (Mossy Back) to builders. I also spotted a post of yours that stated you were probably going to pick up a Kistler Magnesium TS... This is when we decided to get a list of reputable builders (from TackleWorks) in your state that you could contact for help deciding or building your worm rod for you. It would save you a butt load of change in shipping insurance and handling. Sorry..... Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 No worries, i completely understand what you mean. I had no idea you didn't deal through PMs, sorry. I changed my mind on the Kistler as well. I am all over the place with my decisions right now, LOL! It's just that i am VERY picky and specific about my jig/worm rod. THANKS for all the help you provided though. I now know a little more about rod building. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted May 20, 2009 Super User Posted May 20, 2009 So ..Dink, you gonna get a kustom rod, or one of them store bought ones..? Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 I am back and forth with ALX rods right now and i really like what i see! I am doing some research on the Rogue blanks he uses first. I really liked the sound of the Shimano Crucial CRC-X72H but i want split grip handle! Quote
bobdogg17 Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I have a Shimano Crucial and Cumara. Crucial for spinning gear, cumara for casting. If you want the split handle, go for the cumara. I just got one recently, but love it! Quote
Big O Tires Angler Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I don't understand why you haven't picked up a Zillion rod yet...I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it... Quote
Cavfirst Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Have you tried the old Tom Mann Jr signature All Star classic Carolina Rig Rod you could pick them up at Sports Academy for like 50 Bucks "Broom Stick" but still fairly sensitve for the price. They were also very durable I whooped snakes, wasps and all kinda of ugly creatures with mine back in the day flippn were I ought not be Flippn Quote
