They are currently on backorder at BPS and Cabelas. Is it because they are really that good or because of the article in Bass Masters magazine? Interested in feedback while I wait on backorder (with time to change my mind...)

I'd have to say its because its got the look of a high quality rod when in reality it probably isn't.  I gurantee you it will not perform better than a decent rod in the $70-130 range and it sure won't stand up next to a $150-300 rod.  YOU GET WHAT U PAY FOR and w/ a $29.99 price tag, I'd say your just buying the rod to look like you got something special.

I agree about the Clarus..I have one and like it, mines a m xf.

Also, there are other rods in that price range..70.00-100.00 that you may want to check out..i.e. BPS ect. Or...you could try and find a good used rod.

I would think that the Bassmaster article could influence the demand for this or other items.

Just because it's $30 doesn't mean it can't perform satisfactorily. Most of the rods I've owned are inexpensive and I've been satisfied. I'm not going to claim that it's the same as a rod costing 10 times more, but then, I drive a Toyota Corolla and I doubt that it's less effective than, say, a Lexus in getting me to where I want to go.

My rods cast lures, detect bites, set hooks and fight fish to my satisfaction. When somebody proves to me that a $250 rod will get more fish than a $40 or that a $20 crankbait will catch more than a $5, I might change my thinking.

I ordered one because the matched my Asaro I have extra and also have unused braid so I figured it would be a good bank rod for worms and such, plus I needed extra for free shipping.  But after around a month on backorder, I think I'm gonna cancel the order and just stick it on a carrot stix for tubes.

I've handled the "shock" and it felt pretty good and the "amp" is the $29 rod and I actually have one I use as my crankbait rod and its been pretty successful for me so fat this season. The shock is either just under $50 or just over $50 and a braid specific rod and still thinking of getting one for myself

Well said.

There is no question a $100.00 rod is better made than  $30.00 rod but will a $300.00 Loomis get you more bites than say a $100.00 Mojo Bass or BPS Extreme? I doubt it. There is a point of diminishing returns. That being said, get the best you can afford. Your skill is the single most determining factor as to fish caught.

I have 2. A medium spinning rod with 15#Tracer braid been using for plastics and flukes and a MH b/c I put an Accurist Burner and 10#FloroClear (tell me about it now) that I have only thrown lipless cranks and a few Sweet Beavers with.  I like both of these rods.  the spinning rod has some bone to it, which is nice. Hard for me to say how much more sensitive it is than any other.  I also got a Mojo Wacky, that is a very nice rod and seems to be maybe more sensitive, nut again, it is all subjective to my less seasoned angling skills.

The MH b/c rod seems a little soft, which is why using for traps and the like.  The Sweet Beavers on that rod required hooksets from way back in the kidneys it seemed. (Here it comes) May have been the line choice though. It is very light, seems balanced with my reel and I feel I can cast it all day long.
