ptomacbass Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Is there a weight limit for the Daiwa Zillion reels? I have heard some people say heavy baits can mess up a Zillion reel due to the heavy weight bending the spool shafts. Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 I dunno, but people over at Tackle Tour are using the Zillion High Power to throw big swimbaits. How big of a bait do you want to throw? I don't think the Zillion is any more delicate than any other low profile in its class. Quote

Super User .RM. Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 Having looked at a lot of Zillion spool shafts (real stubbies) I personally would like to see a bent one, they aren't long enough to bend (on the spool brake side)... The cast control cap holds the true spool shaft and it isn't connected to the spool in any way. This is just some more A typical type BS info that TT's forum provides..... If anything they are anglers that used the Zillion to throw SB's (before Daiwa answered the need), and never had the reels serviced and blew out some bearings, but they didn't bend the spools/shafts unless they removed the spool and clamped them down in a vise... As for weight limits, they only list the max line size for proper full spool rotations, any lure weight limit would be set by the rods limitations, not the reels line size.... They are better built reels than that....... : My .02¢ Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 What RM said. I just don't see it either. Nevertheless, if you are going to have a dedicated big bait reel, why not a Daiwa Luna, Shimano Calcutta or an Ambassadeur? Quote
BigBassGuy Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 If they have a weight limit for lure size then you better limit the size fish you catch!!! Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it??? : ;D ;D Quote
Super User Raul Posted May 16, 2009 Super User Posted May 16, 2009 Daiwa discontinued the TDZ ok ? but the TDZ and the Zillion are so close I 'd rather think of the Zillion as a more heavy TDZ, Daiwa had the TD Big Bait Special and other than the color paint, the spool type and depth, the type of braking and a few minor components the Big Bait Special was labeled for big baits, I don 't think you 'll have a problem using your zillion to cast them big baits.
