Chris W Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Anyone here have any experience with this reel all I buy is Shimano but the twitching bar on this reel has always looked pretty good thinking about purchasing one but would like some feedback good or bad on them. Thanks Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I dont have that one, but i do have the cheapo version. the megaforce. I LOVE IT!!!!! i use it as my senko rig. someone else i know that has one uses it for suspending jerks and says that one little twitch from that bar on a jerk can make a difference. anyway the cheap version with 12lb suffix seige can cast a weightless senko like a dream. Super User Micro Posted May 14, 2009 Super User Posted May 14, 2009 This reel is intriguing to me, too. I have a few Daiwas and love them. But I don't have a Viento. I think the twitching bar is a gimmick. But from what I understand, it is otherwise an excellent reel. I understand it handles light baits very well. I'm interested in hearing some opinions on this reel. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted May 14, 2009 Super User Posted May 14, 2009 I have had one for just about three years now. The reel has its place. I have used it when throwing worms and other plastics, slowly bumping and twitching it along the bottom. I have also used it when throwing flukes and topwater baits, This is my favorite way to use the twitching bar. That subtle twitch makes your line jump, usually resulting in a blow up. They are decent reels. Shop around a little before you pay full price. They can be had right now for as little as $130.00 on the auction site. Quote
Branuss04 Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I held one once... Broke it though. It wasn't even mine, it was at a demo tank. They had it attached to a 4 ft pole with 8# line and a jig attached to the end so you could experience the "Twitch". I asked the guy if the twitch bar was built to hold up against the wear and tear of bass fisherman. He assured me it was built "Ford" tuff!!! . So I buttoned down the drag, stepped on the jig, and pressed down on the twitch bar. Something popped and I handed the reel back and left. Kinda gimmicky to me. There are other ways to "Twitch" a jig than to buy a Twitching reel. Just my .02c Quote
Chris W Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 Thanks for the info I think I will try one might try to find a used one. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I bought a Viento when they first came out several years ago. I have tried it on many different rods. I first had it on my worm rod, then my jig rod, then my Senko rod, and really liked the reel, but found I didn't use the twiching bar much at all & I liked to control the bait with my rod and not my reel for those applications. Then I found the Viento a home...on my frog rod. If you rapidly twich the bar, that little frog comes to life across the lilly pads or slop. I feel my success with the frog has increased since using the twiching bar in retrieving my frogs. Overall, it is a great reel and you will just need to find what application you will utilize the twiching bar most for. Quote

Just my .02c DUDE! the twitchin bar isnt made for reeling in a fish, or any amount of pressure like that. its made for subtle movements of baits. Quote

FishingPirate Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I got this thing shortly after it came out and have yet to have any major issues with it. The only issues are that I got sand in a bearing and when I took it apart I played with the break and put it together with the word "off" positioning the break around "5". Had the same issue with two other reels I took apart :-[. So far, this thing is a beast. Ive got it settled down on to a 6'9" carrot and 14lb flouro. I like it, a lot. For all of the twitching bar haters, the bar can easily be removed with no negative reprocussions. I like the bar though. Quote
