Spinning Line Frustration - What line?

I just had BPS put 10 lb Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon on my new Pflueger President spinning reel. I've fished with it now several times and am very frustrated with the rig. I like the color/visibility of the line but it's terrible about looping out off the spool and making a mess of line that the only solution is to cut it off and start fresh. How would I recognize if the line were spooled on wrong at BPS? I don't have much experience with spinning rigs.

What's the best line for avoiding this type of problem and being able to throw 1/8 to 1/4 oz lures?

I would say get some KVD Line conditioner and spray it on and make sure BPS didn't fill the spool too much as that can be part of the problem as well. If they did fill it too much which the people at Cabelas have done at times strip some of the line off and still use the KVD.

6# Yo Zuri Ultra Soft. And I hate Berkley Vanish it was terrible for me, I Sprayed KVD L&L on it and it did nothing.

Also, I suggest treating all line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner.

I'll add another vote for YoZuri ultra soft. And yup, I tried the vanish, and hated it, even with KVD line conditioner..I have since spooled both my spinning, and baitcasters with yozuri and haven't had a problem..btw, I use 8 lb on my size 2500 spinning reel.

I wouldn't go anywhere near any spinning reel with 10# diameter line, unless it was a 5000 series or bigger.

FC line can spring off of spinning reels, as you have now discovered. That is the nature of the beast with fc line and spinning reels. With certain reels, you can actually adjust the line lay on the spool to compensate for such springiness in the line.

Second biggie. Lose that line. If your cover allows step down to 8 or better yet 6 as others have recommended.  8-)

Why not go braided line with a fluorocarbon leader it would solve all your frustrations.

If you are going to use Floro you picked the right brand but wrong product, next time try the Trilene 100% floro in 6 or 8 lb test which is a much better line than Vanish. Throw floro on a 3000 or 4000 size reel. As the others mentioned the Yozuri is a very good line as well.

This is 100% correct. I use #8 vanish on two of my spinning rods and it works like a dream. But go any higher on the test and forget it, its no good.

I use 8lb Seaguar Invizix with some KVD line and lure and its been great for me.

There is no reason why you can't use 10lb on a spinning reel. There are a few things that come to mind that would be good in your sitiuation. Before spooling line soak it in hot water. This makes the line limp and takes out any memory of the filler spool. It will then form to the spinning spool. When you cast do you reel to click your bail or do you flip it over? If you reel stop and flip it by hand. Those two things should fix all your problems.

why?a loy of pros including kvd do!!!the bigger spool prevents line twist.if you buy a pflueger supreme you can have a 4000 size around 9 ounces.

6 Pound Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft.

Line test no higher than 8 pounds.

If the line twists, do this:

Keep bail shut.

Take pressure off drag.

Pull line off reel with bail shut.

Take twist out of line.

Rewind line back onto reel using pressure by holding line in hand or between hand and rod to put it back on reel, tight.

By doing this you will not allow the line to pop off the spinning reel in a ball.

Be sure to tighten the drag to its original position when finished.

Never open the bail when taking line off a spinning reel.

I just don't see the point in using a spinning reel made for 12lb or heavier line for bass. I think 12lb test is the cut-off where a baitcaster becomes more appropriate.

I use 8lb xps flurocarbon line on a BPS extreme spinning reel without any significant problems.  

A wacky rig will ultimately result in line twist but you deal with that event when it happens.  If you really want to solve line twist, rig a barrel swivel 12 to 18" above the lure.
