krisjack69 Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 What is the best flurocarbon line for spinning reels and does anyone here use fluorocarbon line on spinning reels.Does it cause birdnests on baitcasters like on spinning gear. Quote
Primus Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 I absolutely do use Florocarbon for spinning reels, the best that I've used so far is Trilene 100%. A few things you'll want to do, first use a spinning reel with a 3000 or 4000 spool, the larger coils are less likely to birdnest and make sure to leave it at least an 1/8" from the spool lip. The second thing I do is troll it with no lures behind my boat to loosen it up spraying KVD line conditioner on as I'm reeling it in. Last but not least if using it for a dropshot put your leader on with a tiny salmon swivel to minimize line twist.. I can honestly say that Trilene floro if installed right is as manageable as most mono lines that I've tried. Quote
KevO Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 I use 6# trilene 100% on one of my spinning reels. It's the best flouro I've used. I've never done any of the things Primus mentioned and I only use 2500 series reels, but I do use KVD and it eliminated all the line twists and memory. I've used the 12# Trilene Flouro also on a casting reel but did not like it as much. Even with the KVD it had some memory and was a little difficult to get used too. Quote
Primus Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Kevo I have not tried this line for baitcasters, I've used BPS floro 14#, 17# and sometimes 20# up to this point. When I'm pitching the line will bunch on occasion, to remedy this I make a long cast to straighten the line up. Quote
tentimesover Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 I recently spooled up with 10lb Berkley Vanish fluorocarbon on my newly purchased spinning outfit. I was very frustrated with it after several fishing trips. Lots of loops and birdnests that had to be cut out. I posted and got several of the tips noted here. I can't tell you which one is the best but I can tell you one that I would avoid for spinning. Quote
