andamtoft Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Is the extra money put to good use buying a pflueger supreme or should i just get the president and and use the extra money on something else? Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 It is worth it...the Supreme is around 2.5 ounces lighter and has a higher gear ratio (6.2:1 as oppoed ti 5.2:1). I just switched all my Presidents over to Supremes and I am very pleased with them so far. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 I don't give recommendations only reviews of equipment I've used for at least 6 months. My pflueger medalist is the smoothest real I own including other brands that are twice the price(doesn't make it a better reel, there are other considerations). The medalist is the saltwater version of the president, it performs flawless. I own 2 supremes, ok, but thought my old trion was just as good, if not better. Unless you are going to jump up to a stradic fi, it really makes little difference, what ever catches your will work nicely. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 I used a Medalist for 2 years, I didnt see advantage over the President. I know the President has the dreaded graphite body;BI DEAL I never lost a fishi because of it and we had one of our tiny friends try to torque the stem off of one moutned on a rod and in a vice, couldn t do it case closed mook for me! Faster Ratio could me something, depends on the inches of line retrieved per turn of the handle, I didt see any big difference THE PRESIDENT XT IS THE SLATWATER VERSION OF THE PRESIDENT, as least according to Pflueger the people who make them and not the Medalist Here are the specs of all 3 from their catatlog: Medalist: Medalist Spinning Reels 9 stainless steel ball bearings, with pinion and main gear bearings fully sealed One-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing Smooth sealed front drag system Rugged aluminum body and anodized aluminum spool Anti-twist titanium line roller Sure-ClickTM bail Machined aluminum handle with soft touch knob Spare aluminum spool On/Off anti-reverse Power knob available on 70 & 80 size (NEW) 7025 115 yards / 4 Lb. 5.2:1 10.0 oz Left & Right Ultralight Freshwater / Ultralight Saltwater (NEW) 7030 115 yards / 6 Lb. 5.2:1 11.0 oz Left & Right Light Freshwater / Ultralight Saltwater (NEW) 7035 145 yards / 8 Lb. 5.2:1 12.6 oz Left & Right Medium Light Freshwater / Ultralight Saltwater (NEW) 7040 195 yards / 10 Lb. 5.2:1 13.2 oz Left & Right Medium Freshwater / Light Saltwater (NEW) 7050 220 yards / 14 Lb. 4.6:1 18.0 oz Left & Right Medium Heavy Freshwater / Medium Light Saltwater (NEW) 7060 230 yards / 17 Lb. 4.6:1 20.0 oz Left & Right Heavy Freshwater / Medium Saltwater 6070 240 yards / 20 Lb. 5.3:1 26.0 oz Left & Right Medium Heavy Saltwater 6080 240 yards / 25 Lb. 4.3:1 27.2 oz Left & Right Heavy Saltwater The PRESIDENT: President Spinning Reels 9 stainless steel ball bearings (6720 has 7 ball bearings) Double-shielded ball bearings in key locations Instant anti-reverse one-way clutch bearing Anodized aluminum spool with distinctive hole pattern for lighter weight Titanium spool lip for added line protection Large diameter titanium ball bearing line roller Smooth front drag system with stainless steel and oiled felt washers and audible drag adjustment Sure-ClickTM Bail Corrosion-resistant stainless steel main shaft and components Machined aluminum handle with rosewood knob Spare aluminum spool included Soft touch knob available on 50 and 60 size 6720 105 yards / 4 Lb. 5.2:1 6.4 oz Left & Right Ultralight Freshwater 6725 115 yards / 4 Lb. 5.2:1 7.7 oz Left & Right Ultralight Freshwater 6730 115 yards / 6 Lb. 5.2:1 9.1 oz Left & Right Light Freshwater 6735 145 yards / 8 Lb. 5.2:1 11.2 oz Left & Right Medium Light Freshwater 6740 195 yards / 10 Lb. 5.2:1 12.3 oz Left & Right Medium Freshwater 6750 220 yards / 14 Lb. 4.6:1 18.7 oz Left & Right Medium Heavy Freshwater / Medium Light Saltwater 6760 230 yards / 17 Lb. 4.6:1 20.9 oz Left & Right Heavy Freshwater / Medium Saltwater >Home >Products >Spinning Reels >President XT Spinning Reel President XT Spinning Reel 9 stainless steel ball bearings One-way clutch instant anti-reverse bearing Lightweight aluminum construction, provides the strength of an all aluminum body without the weight Anodized aluminum spool with distinctive hole pattern for lighter weight Large diameter titanium coated line roller Sure-ClickTM Bail Corrosion-resistant stainless steel shaft and components Machined aluminum handle with soft touch knob Spare aluminum spool On / Off anti-reverse 6725XT (NEW) 115 yards / 4 Lb. 5.2:1 7.5 oz Left & Right Ultralight Freshwater / Ultralight Saltwater 6730XT (NEW) 115 yards / 6 Lb. 5.2:1 9.0 oz Left & Right Light Freshwater / Ultralight Saltwater 6740XT (NEW) 195 yards / 10 Lb. 5.2:1 12.6 oz Left & Right Medium Freshwater / Light Saltwater 6750XT (NEW) 220 yards / 14 Lb. 4.6:1 19.6 oz Left & Right Medium Heavy Freshwater / Medium Light Saltwater 6760XT (NEW) 230 yards / 17 Lb. 4.6:1 20.9 oz Right Heavy Freshwater / Medium Saltwater According to a Pfl;ueger rep at Cabelas one day the XT has more corroisn resistant construction. Only the big water Presidents have Salt Water applications and as you can see the Whole PRESIDENT XT line up is reccomended for salt water use. I hope this helps you out The Medalist and President are 2 different lines, always have been. I have not used the XT as of yet, I have one fro fishing for snappers off the piers in Brooklyn this year, I will post a review of it when I do. The Medalist is a fine reel, I just am happy with the Trion and President line and their graphite bodies and rosewood handles have never been an issue after years of very hard fishing. Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 Is the extra money put to good use buying a pflueger supreme or should i just get the president and and use the extra money on something else? Don't know a thing about either reel. But if you think you're sacrificing some reel quality to save the $40, then you might be always questioning yourself as to whether you should've bought the Supreme. And if that is true and you are planning to keep the reel for a long time, then I'd bite the bullet and spend the extra $40 now and you'll never have to second-guess yourself. Quote

Thats true, but if everything worked like that then I would have all GLX's and would be broke. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 14, 2009 Super User Posted May 14, 2009 Hey Marty; The reverse could also be true. Thats exactly what i thought when I bought the Medalist, great reel, but not better than my President I could have saved the 40 bucks and been just as pleased. Quote
MitchIsFishin Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 My old Trion GX7 is still going & still smooth, for what that's worth. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 14, 2009 Super User Posted May 14, 2009 My old Trion GX7 is still going & still smooth, for what that's worth. They are one tough reel fo sho. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted May 14, 2009 Super User Posted May 14, 2009 My medalist was purchased before the introduction of the president xt. At that time the president was purely freshwater, except in the 2 larger models that replaced the rosewood handle, but too large for bass fishing anyway. I owned the president and the medalist at the same time. If I were in the market for a new reel I would give the president xt a good peek. Quote
