ataylor17 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 i own an Abu Garcia Premier baitcaster and love it. I am looking to purchase another reel but would rather not spend $260 on another Premier. Anyone have any suggestions on quality reels under $180? Quote

Hatty Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 By far and away the Curado... you won't be disappointed best reel for the money in my opinion. In fact you may like it better then the Premier. Quote
Use ONLY Stren Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Johnny Morris Signature Series reel from BPS is very nice I have had no problems with mine. I have never used the Curado so I cant say anything about it. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 12, 2009 Super User Posted May 12, 2009 Shimano Curado http://www.deloscustomtackleshack.com/reels/shimanocurado_E.html 8-) Quote
Bronzefly Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Another vote for the Curado E7... SWEET reel for sure! Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 the thing is you should buy the one that feels best to you. if you listen to everyone on here you will end up getting a shimano. if you havent noticed a majority of the people here love shimano. notice the shimano products support section. i personally love the revo line of reels. maybe you should get an unbias opinion. maybe read reviews on bass pro or cabelas and compare from there. lubina Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Look into Daiwa Advantage HST or Quantum Energy PT VI Quote
Bayou Bass Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Whether or not this board has a shimano support section has nothing to do with what reels I fish. I have tried them all, and I like the Shimano stuff the best. Mainly because they are light weight, smooth, and hold up in saltwater. Quote
NBR Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 The Curado is a good reel but so are many others I have Daiwa's, a Curado, a Pfueger, Quantum's and 2 or 3 BPS reels and frankly I like them all. If possible see which reel fits your rod and hand best. Quote

Super User Raul Posted May 12, 2009 Super User Posted May 12, 2009 Shimano doesn 't give me a cent divided in two for recommending their products, in most cases of people recommending Shimano the case is the same. I own Daiwa, Shimano and Abu, I 'm not on the payroll of any of them. I recommend what I 've owned, what I own, what has proven time and time again: durability, price, features, performance. If I were to purchase me a reel like right now I would go with a Shimano without hesitation ( actually I purchased a Chronarch B that I don 't need a few weeks ago ). For around 180 I would go with a Curado, don 't want to spend the whole $180 ? get a Citica. Quote

If Daiwa or any other reel company wants a forum here Im sure Glenn will accommodate. Perhaps people love Shimano products for the same reason you love the Revo's, because they feel good and work for you? Im guessing we're all biased for recommending G-Loomis rods, right? : Definitely check out reels from all the manufacturers and find the one that feels best to you. I think for under $180 you cant beat the Curado but I personally dont like the feel of the 200E's and prefer the 100D's. Quote
HAMMER23 Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 I will give all you reel lovers out there my opinion. I dont think it matters a lot to any seasoned fisherman, its kinda like golf, if you dont know the basic fundamentals it really doesnt matter what your swinging. I have cheeper reels that throw just as far as the exspensive reels I have owned, and vise versa. I have caught bass on every different setup of every kind for the last 20yrs, I mean how far is far enough to cast, how much drag is enough? just my opinion !! Quote
Super User Micro Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 The Revo SX is a great reel for that price. It has all the performance of the more expensive STX and looks good, too. I bet it will feel familiar in your hand . And its backed by the best customer service in the industry. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 13, 2009 Super User Posted May 13, 2009 And its backed by the best customer service in the industry. Okay... I'm glad Pure Fishing is great, but several other companies in the fishing business deserve exactly the same compliment. 8-) Quote
