Weightless plastics rod???

Hey all!

I need recommendations on what rod to use for weightless plastics. Power, size and action of the rod also. It will mainly be used for Senkos and flukes. I recently broke the rod that i was using for those techniques. I was thinking of using a St. Croix Mojo rod in 7' MH/F and a Revo Premier reel that i have. Would this be too much or too stiff for weightless rigs? Any help is appreciated.

I have a Rick Clunn bps 7' rod that works great, even with the bps extrem bc reel, I can toss a weightless senco a good distance.

It's probably not the lightest, or the most senitive, but it catches fish for me.

    I use spinning gear for my weightless plastics.

    My current setup is a Diawa 6'6" MH rod.  The reel is a also a Diawa spinning reel.

    This setup works great for me.  I have caught most of my fish off of it this year.

I forgot to mention i want a bait casting set up. Also, what line would you guys recommend? I was thinking maybe fluoro because i have a difficult time feeling hits with mono and weightless. The problem is most people say Senkos and flukes work best on light line. I fish mine in and around heavy cover so i need a heavier line. I like to flip a Senko into small openings in vegetation.

I think your MH,F will work fine...  I used to use my MBR844c IMX as my fluke & senko rod...  I'm inbetween dedicated rods at the moment but have a MB783 RX7 being built for that task.

Not to make it more difficult...but it depends on the plastic . I don't have a 'weightless plastics rod'. I fish weightless Senkos and lizards (spring) on pitching gear....your average MH or H rod with 12-15lb fluorocarbon. It's the smaller baits such as Zoom Trickworms, Smallie Beavers, and such that I downsize for. Small duty plastics generally get my SJR723 paired with a 2000 size daiwa Advantage spinning reel. I've owned baitcasters that will cast weightless finesse worms, but you can't beat spinning gear for that task. So, my worthless advice is that you need 2 rods....or if you own a spinning rod and a T-rig rod....you are set.  I find that casting weightless lizards (or any lightweight plastic) with a baitcasting reel depends more on the reel than the rod.

I have spinning gear but i NEVER use it! I catch 90% of my fish pitchin/flippin scattered and heavy cover so i need casting gear. Either way i am going to need a new rod. I currently use the Mojo/Premier combo for pitching t-rigged plastics but feel it is too light for the task. So, if i make that my weightless combo than i need a new t-rigged plastics rod. That might just be what i will do. I have a 7' H/F rod i can use for that but i am really just trying to get the monkey off my back by buying a new rod!!!!!!! ;D

Just focus on line capacity with your new reel to determine it's ability to cast weightless baits.  You need a reel that holds around 110yds of 12lb or less to be effective.  Line is heavy, and weightless baits don't have the torque necessary to get a spool with 140yds of line moving

I just got a 6'8" M G-Blanks IM-7 rod rated 6-12lb line. I use it for 1/8 grubs weightless tricks worms etc. paired with a revo-s with 8lb gamma copoly and it is a great set up.

I have been seeing G-Blanks a lot on Ebay lately! Are they good blanks, sensitivity, strength? What other known brands would you compare them to?

I like Berkley's Tactix Wacky Rod. It's a spinning rod, and is a medium heavy, fast action blank that is 7'0". Only about 60 bucks too.

I used to have an All Star Titanium Wacky Worm AST815WW baitcaster that was 6'9", med/hvy, mod fast action. It was a great rod for senko's or other weightless plastics because the moderate action of the rod allowed the tip to load up just the right amount on the cast.

All Star hasn't made the baitcasting model in a few years though it is available in spinning. I sold mine. The rod just wasn't versatile enough to justify taking up rod box space for just one method. I now get by with a 6'6" Med/Ex fast AS Platinum rod.

I guess i will use my Mojo rod since it is very versatile indeed. I will be on the look out for a new worm rod though!

OMG, i just ran into a guy online that has about 10 Powell rods for sale at $80 each!!!! They are like new judging by the pics he sent me. I am about to be broke guys, LOL!!!

I went ahead and bought a rod for plastics from him today. It is labeled Mag Heavy/Ex Fast but it is identical in action to my 7' Mojo rod that is MH/F. I guess the smaller Powells are over rated in power and action. I am going to sale either the Powell or the Mojo since they are the same and i don't need both.
