All,

I just purchased a St. Croix 'Mojo Bass' spinning rod (MBS69MLXF), and I am looking for a reel with 6# to 10#.  I have never purchased a quality reel before, but plan on getting one this time with my new rod.

I have been looking at Pflueger® President® XT spinning reels, and will most likely purchase one.

I have read the reviews and all, and would like some input on the reel (if you own one), or on a reel you own, and would recommend to a fellow angler.

Thanks for your time,

Denea

I haven't fished with any of the new XTs but I have some of the old presidents and they're awesome reels for the money.

That's the same as my buddy was saying as he has one...your input is greatly appreciated.  ;)

you can prob find a shimano symetre for that price. i highly recommend those reels, although i have never used the president xt...

i do have a pfueger supreme and id rather use a symetre. if you want to spend a little more, id look into a daiwa tierra. you can prob find them for close to $100 online.

Your input is appreciated bigfruits, and I will surely check out some reviews on the reels you have directed me towards.

All I own are Pflueger reels, and the Presidents have treated me well as have the Trions

I have not used this newer model, and I am buying one fore fishing Salt Water as their catalog says this model has the right kind of bearings ( Corrosion resistant) for this application

Someone always has to pump a SHe Man O, and those mooks have their own board here, some kind of Dr Phil Support group or something ;)

do you ever wonder why people pump shimano? maybe because... theyre great reels?

have you ever used a  shimano, muddy? if so, please tell me what you liked better about a similarly priced pflueger.

Shimano makes some great stuff. Are they really better than Abu/Daiwa/Pflueger? In my opinion, no. All of them are making some fine gear and it's a matter of research. As good as Shimano is, along with their customer service, they don't have a lock on quality. Everybody in this business knows their competition and are working hard to keep up.

i have used shimano and switched to pflueger.shimano never fixed the binding issues with the old stradics and told people the problem never existed.shimano products are generally very good.they are severely overpriced.i'll outcast any shimano with a pflueger patriarch except for maybe one of the computerized models.the finish on the patriarch will also look better than shimano's paint jobs after a few seasons.if you like shimano that's great but there are other reels out there that are just as good if not better for less money.

as far as the spinning reel goes get a pflueger supreme.do not get a president because it has a graphite frame.imho these are inferior and will not hold up nearly as well.

At least you're honest.

They make them.

Absolutely sir, I never , never ever will talk about something I have never used. RW gave me a Stradic, which is considerably more than the Presidents and Trions I use. It was a good reel, no better than my President, I don't see why I should get all excited about it.

My fishing partner has a She Man O and loves it and also has a President.

There are a lot of opinions here. I give you my word I always post from experience. There are many here who have fished with me and know what I use

I also anwered with the fella asked and did not try to steer him to another product , which happens way too much around here.

IMO I'd buy nothing less than a stradic fi, if I were buying shimano, the stradic is really a fine reel. Every time I put my hands on a lesser shimano(they feel heavy and not smooth) other reels grab my attention more.

I will not give recommendations only reviews on equipment I have owned for a period of time.

trion, real smooth, bit heavy, don't like rosewood handle

medalist, smoothest real I own, also heavy

2 supremes, good but overrated, I'd back down to the president xt

stradic fi, best of the bunch, smoothest drag, but cost more than many want to spend.

All the input received is appreciated.

Thanks again guys,
