bigmountaineer Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Which do you think is better investment? You can suggest a little higher priced one if you think it's worth it. I like the Carrot Stix Gold, Kistler TS, and others in this price range, but the Energy PT and Mojo look enticing. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 IMO, there are many better rods out there than those two. But for the $, the mojo just can't be beat. I absolutely love both of mine. They are very strong and very sensitive. I put Revo Premiers on mine and the whole combo weighs like 10oz! My all time favorite rods are the Powell Max line though. I fell in love with them right away. Quote
andamtoft Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 big, what are you looking to use the rod for? and dink, do you have any of the spinning series powell maxes, i just ordered a 6' MH, ever use a rod like this? Quote

No i sure don't andamtoft, but i will be ordering a spinning one soon. I'm sure they are identical to the casting series. I absolutely love the MAX rods man. My smallest is a 7' H/F that i use for plastics. Quote
andamtoft Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 i just got mine off *** on liquidation and i'm really excited to try it, glad to hear someone loves the max series... cant wait! Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Look at airrus copperheads or the co matrix. also H&H makes a good rod. I looked at the 7'6 mh mojo at gndr mtn and it was too heavy and waaaaay of balance. if it had a longer handle and maybe a weighting system i would have bought it. i love the med mojo though. awsome. i dont like quantam anything. but definatly look at airrus and H&H. and no its not the same company that makes the spinnerbaits(h&h).i bought an H&H and i love it. Boett43 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Dose anyone know how many modules the mojo has or its IM- rating Quote
basser89 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Dose anyone know how many modules the mojo has or its IM- rating Here you go: http://www.stcroixrods.com/rods/default2.asp?rodname=83 I'd recommend the Energy PT rods. I two 2 and I'm looking to add a few more! Quote
Boett43 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Thanks basser but not to sound like a jerk but that didnt show the number of modules, not that its real important im just curious. i also sent you a PM about a reel to see if you could give me a an opinion if you dont mind. thanks Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 8, 2009 Super User Posted May 8, 2009 Which do you think is better investment? St.Croix® by far.....St. Croix's Super High End Rods SCVI blank run 62,000,000 modules. The SCII blank (Mojo & Premier) is a mid modules blank, said to be in the 30 mil to 40 mil modules range.. Just the .02¢ of a rod builder... Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Boett43 Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 is it the modules that make it sensitive? also what is the IM rating, sorry to hijack the thread Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 8, 2009 Super User Posted May 8, 2009 higher modulus generally means more sensitivity. IM ratings are one way that rod makers use to measure modulus. IM6 has a lower modulus than IM10. BUT: IM ratings are not standardized. They mean different things for different companies. bigmountaineer, what application do you plan to be using the rod for? Quote
bigmountaineer Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 Thanks for all your help, Dan I plan on using it for shore fishing where there is a lot of trees around, and I love to fish worms, creature baits, anything weightless or a small texas rig. I need more help deciding, b/w Carrot Stix, Avid, G.Loomis Mossyback 803, Powell Max..or suggest others please Quote
Super User Dan: Posted May 9, 2009 Super User Posted May 9, 2009 I think you will appreciate a higher quality rod for worms and soft plastics. Sensitivity is the most important for soft plastics and jigs. If you want to get a sensitive, high quality rod for any application it should be for soft plastics and/or jigs. well, for around $150 you can get a Kistler Magnesium TS. I really like the one I have. You would probably want the "All Purpose" (MgAPSMH69) or "Senko Special" (MgSWMH70) for what you want to do. The Avids are really nice rods also and I've heard really good things about the carrot sticks. It's a tough choice you have. Quote
LAO162 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Shimano Crucial yet. Quote
bigfruits Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 now that you mentioned avid, id get that. very good value and great warranty. from what ive read, g-loomis shines when you buy IMX or GLX. i have not tried the mossyback's personally however. Quote
mase088 Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 For the money, carrot stix are great rods. I have two and love them, plus they have a no hassle lifetime warranty. Quote
