Christop73 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 What kind of fishing are you intending to use it for? Spinning or casting! Quote

Super User Catt Posted May 3, 2009 Super User Posted May 3, 2009 All Star® Team All Star or All Star IM10 Graphite Series American Rodsmiths Team Series Daiwa®-S Bass Trigger Rods Falcon Original series or Falcon LowRider® Fenwick® HMG® Triggerstik® These are the best rods you'll find in that price range Quote
The_Natural Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Cabelas XML Ti Reg. $189.99 Sale $109.99 The XML's are good rods anyway, but this is the top model with REC guides. Great deal.... http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0030280119418a&navCount=2&podId=0030280&parentId=cat20372&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20372_TGP&catalogCode=9IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20372&hasJS=true Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 3, 2009 Super User Posted May 3, 2009 Cabelas Fish Eagle II 80 bucks You know what? These are really pretty good sticks for the price!! I was just down to the river with my son and a neighbor boy fishing for carp and I was using my Fish Eagle II 6'6" MH spinning (was a gift couple years ago and have not used it much) and I was shocked how sensitive it was. I have never really noticed nor given this rod a chance but after today I'm backing this rod as a good deal, and even better if you get them on sale. My biggest gripe with this rod of mine is the strpping guide is too small, but that may not be the case with others or newer models. I'm going to keep this one for carp and might consider another to fill a void in my finesse lineup now. Quote
jamarkwe Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I would try to add 50 bucks to it and get an Avid But for $120 get the premier or mojo series rods. And you'll have change left over for all those lures you "need". 8-) Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 4, 2009 Super User Posted May 4, 2009 e21 Carrot Stix LTX Yup. Gonna agree with this one...can be found for less than the 150 list if you shop around. Also gonna add a BPS Pro Qualifier for the 99 sale price and agree with the Mojo. To be honest, I don't get the no more or no less than 120....well just the no less part...kinda limiting choices here... Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Cant go wrong with a St. Croix Premiere or Mojo, Falcon Original or Lowrider, but wheres the love for some Castaway SLX3. I have one and absolutely love it. Also, I have a Fish Eagle II and I am very impressed with it, very strong and sensitive. At the end of the day, I would probably buy the mojo. Quote
Fish Chris Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 You Have Got $120.00 For a Rod I do ? Would you mind if I filled my gas tanks, and payed my day use fees instead ? :-) So many good rods out there. Love my Okuma Guide Selects. My Fenwick HMG's. My G-Loomis SR 720's are awesome ! One things for sure...... No matter what you buy, or where you buy it from, I'd highly recommend finding one that you can pick up and hold in person. Even try slapping a comparable reel on it so you can get the actual feel of it, first. The only way I'd buy a rod online, would be if I had already owned that exact rod previously. Peace, Fish Quote

coffee Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I really like Falcon Originals and St. Croix Premiers in that price range. Quote
Super User Tin Posted May 5, 2009 Super User Posted May 5, 2009 You can find Carrots for around $100 and about $15 to ship on a few ebay stores. Quote
bigtimfish Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 American rodsmiths champions or team series, falcon original,or bps extreme with ext cam lock handle. just got one last week and i got more than i paid for. or a airrus co matrix Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 I would go with the Cabelas XML, XMLTi or maybe even a Mag Touch or the Cabelas Prodigy rod. All of which are on sale and the XML and XMLTi are greats rods and even better when u catch them on sale. Quote
mozy Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 For that range I would go with a Fenwick HMG. I have the 6'6" MH trigger rod and absolutely love it. I've read replies saying some people think it is comparable or better than the Avids, but I've never used an Avid so I can't make that claim. I have no problem recommending these rods and will likely buy more in the future. Quote
Bassoholics Anonymous Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 I got my Crucial for under $120 on sale a few weeks ago. Quote
Brute Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 Tackle warehouse has the Avid AVC70MF on sale right now for $129. I know that's $9 more than you wanted to spend, but that sure seems like a great deal for a rod that usually goes for $170. Brute Quote
Bull Hurley Posted May 6, 2009 Posted May 6, 2009 e21 Carrot Stix LTX all the way or the new Daiwa Mike Iaconelli series they are $120. Quote
