Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted March 27, 2009 Super User Posted March 27, 2009 not sold through BPS...as far as I know Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 I was looking for one also and checked there site and seems most of the dealers listed at least for my area were either Wal-Mart,K-mart or Target. I checked several in my area and none had them in stock. One of the mom pop stores did have them in stock but not the one I wanted but the site says u can have the dealer order the rod. Didn't see them at BPS or Cabelas. Quote
CFFF 1.5 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 They have the amp's at our Gander Mountain here in Lake Mary, FL. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Just picked up one from Joe's Pond for $39.74 shipped to my door Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 9, 2009 Posted April 9, 2009 Just got the rod and had it out and it is incredibly light with my Quantum Kinetic 20PTI-B and very good sensitivity as well. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Thought I would try the rod and reel combo again since its getting warmer here at one of the park district lakes today. After getting hung up in the grass with a medium diving crank I switched to a shallow diver to run just nipping the top of the weeds. I hit some grass and rip it through and caught an 18" northern. I thought it was a bass til it jumped and I got it closer to the shore. The rod handled the fish great and the fish snapped my 8# CXX while I was getting a glove to unhook it and took my lure with it when it broke off. The rod is a great crankbait rod for the price and very sensitive and again handled the fish without a problem. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted April 23, 2009 Super User Posted April 23, 2009 I just got home from Dick's, they had them. They must have just got them, they had quite a few. I checked them out (although I'm not looking for a rod now) and they seemed to be a decent stick for the price. Quote
ghost Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Yup, Dick's Sporting Goods carries the Amp Rods. I got the 6'6" & 7' M baitcasters. They are quite sensitive & I like the price! I agree about they are good crankbait rods, also I will say baitcast drop shot rod too. If you have a reel w/ braid the action of the rod would be good for weightless worms. I wish the Dick's Sporting Goods store carried the 7' M spinning in 1 piece, not 2 piece...I'd be all over that rod! Quote
fivesixone Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 Gander Mountain carries them. I had a 7' Medium spinning 1 piece for a little while. The reel seats on these things suck, the cork started splitting on it. If it wasn't for that though, I'd say they're a pretty good rod for the price. It was a pretty sensitive rod for $30! Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 I agree the reel seat sucks being that it's plastic and you have to make sure you don't overtighten or you can split the seat. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 23, 2009 Super User Posted April 23, 2009 I agree the reel seat sucks being that it's plastic and you have to make sure you don't overtighten or you can split the seat. Not only that but if u sett the lur eon a fish it will unscrew the seat also found that out the other day great style of reel seat just needs to be lefty tighty instead Quote

BigJohnny Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I just bought one from Gander for $29 today, and fished with it all day. They did warn me about the reel seats, but I can see how easy it is to over tighten. It wasn't what I really wanted, but my other rod mysteriously snapped when I left it in the garage last night and I needed a quick fix. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I didn't have a problem when I set the hook on the Northern I caught but I had read about the reel seats and not to over tighten them or you could crack the seat. I'll have to try to tape on the rod to keep it from unscrewing if I have that problem next time out. Quote
5151 Posted May 2, 2009 Posted May 2, 2009 I have actually broken mine on a hook set (more of a wrist snap) this week on about a 1.5 lb bass. Rod broke about on the 3rd guide down right at the end of the wrap , clean like it was cut. Had another one on sale on the flea market and took it off for that reason. My experiment is over with the AMP. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I had mine out again over the weekend and since I use it mostly as a crankbait rod I got alot of use out of it. I caught 6 LMB on it over the weekend with the largest being about 2lbs and didn't have a problem at all. They were all at a small rentention pond on a shallow diving crankbait. Never had a problem with the reel seat unscrewing or the rod on the hookset. All in all its worked pretty good for me and I have the 7ft 2pc model. Quote
