Super User Muddy Posted May 1, 2009 Super User Posted May 1, 2009 Hey Fellas; I am posting this because I have recommended this line since I have been at BassResource.com. I did that because for many years I used it and noticed no difference between Cabelas Pro Line and Stren, my favorite line Well something is different, vastly different. I just bought 4 spools, different test and as soon as I can I am taking it to Cabelas and returning it. THEY HAVE DONE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, DIFFERENT MANUFACTURER OR FORMULA, but all I can say is THIS $%$^ is crappolla now!!!!! Major twist and memory, looping around both casting and spinning rod tips. and yes I know how to spool line, been doing it for a long time What a shame they really messed up a good product. I got a deal on some Trielene XL>>>>No problems with same reels ,rods and baits. GEEEEZ!!!!!! Quote
Super User flechero Posted May 1, 2009 Super User Posted May 1, 2009 You might try a spool of Sufix Elite (red box) when you return the other line... it's as limp and manageable as the XL but much stronger and more abrasion resistant. It's also much clearer. I tried XL as well as several others on my spinning gear but haven't found anything better for me than the Sufix. Worth trying a spool. I hate it when a long time, good product gets changed. Everything has to be "new and improved" :-/ There are a number of products I've been using for years... and whenever I stock up on them I wonder if it's the last time I'll see them. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 1, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2009 Thanks Keith, I will do just that 8-) Quote
MarauderYak Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 I'm quite sure that sometimes when you have a bad experience with line it's not exactly the fault of the line. It's how old it is & how it was stored before it was sold. It's quite possible that line you (Muddy) bought may have been sitting in a warehouse for over a year. And if it happened to be in an area that had hot air blowing on it, or maybe even sunlight, that would have a dramatic effect on the line. I'm not saying they did or didn't change anything because I don't know. I'm just saying it's just as likely they sold line that's been sitting around too long. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 1, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2009 I have been using it for 8 years, I get new spools every 2 years, like clock work, This line is different , it feels different(much stiffer) and when i switched up all issues were gone. Granted it could have been stored wrong at the warehouse, but to tell you the truth I have kept it in my tackle bag for years at a time without all this going on,with this new batch I purchased just a few weeks ago. 21farms Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 i bought a few spools of the stuff 1.5 years ago and have never had such a bad experience with any fishing line...i lost fish after fish with it snapping on the hookset, it was ridiculous. after switching lines, life was good again. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted May 1, 2009 Super User Posted May 1, 2009 x2 on the Sufix. I was a diehard Trilene XL fan (still am) for years. Picked up some Sufix Elite last year on clearance for $4.00 a spool. Have been very happy with it. Just might be my new favorite mono. Quote
The Yankee Fist Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Is that the stuff they give you if you buy a reel? I am WITH YOU. That is just horrendous line. They were out of Yo-Zuri Hybrid Soft 6 and 8# and the guy was like "this stuff is great". NO IT ISN'T! ;D ;D ;D Quote

What esactly is the new line yuo are using now? Does BPS have good line? Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 2, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 2, 2009 Hey John: You know I don't talk either way about stuff I have not used, and BPS line falls into that category, so I haven't a clue I bought a couple of spools of Triline XL, and I am happy with it. Keith has never steered me wrong, so next trip to Hamburg I am going to switch out that Proline for Suffix and try it. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted May 2, 2009 Super User Posted May 2, 2009 Hey Muddy, (or the rest of you guys) How is the abrasion resistance on the Proline? Will it match Trilene XT? Quote
Super User Muddy Posted May 2, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 2, 2009 Jeff, I used it for many years, it acted the same ( if it wasn't the same) as Stren Original, exactly the same. I just started using Trilene XL, as Bruce and Ghoti turned me on to it and I am a happy camper now Quote
