what is a good length for mono leader tied to braid... and what knot should i use to connect the two, double uni?

If you are going to use a leader use fluorocarbon. I use anywhere from a foot and a half to four feet depending on the situation. I use a surgeon knot to connect the braid and the fluoro.

A lot of it is personal preference. I usually go with something in the 4'-7' range just because I want to be able to retie baits a few times as needed without having to retie the fluoro/braid connection. I know some who go more and others who go less.

As for knots, uni-uni works fine, though I prefer to double the braid line before tieing my unis. I think it makes for a more solid connection. J-knot is another good one.

i use a mono leader on braid when i fish the salt...(fresh i stick with straight braid)

i normally use about 6ft of leader...

tied to braid with an improved albright knot...

hasn't failed yet i might add.

I use a double uni knot to connect braid to fluoro or mono. I use about 3' of leader.

Only time I tie a mono leader to braid is fishing for spanish mackeral or kingfish, they will attack a swivel as if it were a lure, then you get cut off.

I have no name for the knot, just something I've been tieing for years.  For me 3 feet is ample length for the leader, all personal taste.

Guess I've been using something like a blood knot..............I like the albright better. Looks easier and a smaller knot.

The Blood Knot is excellent, too, but it is a bit more bulky because

of the twists on either side of the opening used to connect the lines.

I put wire leaders on a few spoons today using piano wire with the Haywire Twist (recommended) for some toothy critters, if anyone is interested. Good move for freshwater pike and muskie.
