Any opinions of Cabelas XML casting rods?

Cabelas has these regularly $139, now $69.00. I need a partner for my 2nd Quantum Accurist,  whats the low down on these?  

I'm on a budget and if I had my choice I would go Avid,  but the 'ol lady aint having it!!!!!

I bought one on sale last year and was EXTREMELY disappointed! They are very over rated in power and action. I purchased a 7' heavy/fast and it looked like a toothpick when it arrived. It was very flimsy and the tip was not fast at all! On top of it all, it was not durable in the least bit. On my second outing with it i hooked into a small bass with a top water frog in open water and about a foot broke off the top! I have never since messed with Cabelas for nothing!   >

I had a chance only to check out the med/heavy variants and at that money( even not on sale) they are pretty darn nice....I almost bought one but didn't need any sizes or actions they had in the store. 69 bucks, load up and sneak 'em by the lady!

I own 12 of these rods and have been fishing with these rods for 3 years now. I am more than pleased with them and think they are well worth the money at $69.99. I would pick up a balancing kit if you really would like they rod to feel weightless in your hand. Cabela's has a great warranty on these rods. My nephew stepped on and broke the top eyelet of one of my XML's. I went to Cabela's looking for a replacement tip and the guy asked me what rod I was looking to repair. When I told him it was an XML, he said just bring it back and they'll replace it. So I did and that is exactly what they did. No questions asked, I just went back, picked up a replacement off the rack, did the exchange at customer service and was then on my way.

Nicely constructed...good components...although heavy compared to other higher end rods. Weight is my one gripe I suppose....

Very great deal!!!!!!!!!!!! I use the fish Eagle II's and I got those  for 30 on clearance and have one of these I got a while ago. Many of the guys I fish with have these and they are wonderfully made.

  I use a lot of Cabelas rods and reels and have found that a lot of trash talking that goes on around here does not reflect how good these products have served me and others.

I'm waiting to receive a Cabela's gift card, and the XML is very tempting.  With my luck the sale will end the day before I get the card ...

I've heard that the general purpose rods have a slower than fast tip.  Are the MH general purpose rods fast enough for jigs, or would it be better to go with one of the technique specific rods.  (I'm thinking the 2-Piece might eventually make it on a plane with me).

slightly on the heavy side because of the spiral core construction but that also makes them very strong. i agree with dink_whisperer somewhat in that i think their ratings for their  general purpose rods are on the high side...their heavy/fast feels more like a medium/moderate to me. i think their technique-specific ratings are pretty much right on though. i think they're a terrific buy at this price.

I just picked up a 6'6" MH XML. I like it, they didnt have any 7' MH one piece, and the 7' H rods seemed a little too stiff for what I might need this one far.

I cant wait to try it, but so far it seems like a perfect deal for a guy like me, I fish mostly ponds and dont have loads of cash right now for high end gear.

The rods are a great deal and even better when you can catch them on sale. I don't have any of the casting models but have 3 of the spinning models. I have a 7' ML, 6'6" M and 6'6" M rig & jig and they have all been great for me. I know there is a lot of mention on them being a bit heavy but guess since they are really the only rods I use they are fine. I also have a couple of the Fish Eagle II's and a XMLTi all in MH and all casting models and they are fine as well.

I bought the 6'3" M spinning rod.  This rod to me feels more like a MH & that's good.  The other 6'3" rods I've tried out weren't exactly what I was wanting in action, more of a M.  I want to use this rod for dock skipping so a MH action rod is perfect for this length.

I did have the 6'10" MH baitcast rod, I liked it but it did feel heavy & tip heavy.  I switched it out w/ an XMLTi & it's just a bit lighter but more sensitive.

Overall I think the XML are very good rods & well worth it when on sale...which doesn't happen too often during the year, same goes w/ the XMLTi.

I just took a 6'6" MH b/c upto a neighborhood park with a lake and the MH seems a tad light action wise to me. I mean it feels good,  but I could see making a H action rod  work. I would be throwing 1/2 oz. spinners and 1/4 jigs with Baby Paca Craws.

They didnt have 7' MH in one piece,  so I may go back and exchange it for a 7' H which were in stock as one piece rods.

I use the XML 6'6" M casting as one of my jerkbait/small topwater rods and the thing is awesome.  I am tempted to buy another one as a backup rod just in case I break one.  The only thing I dont like about these rods is that the handle is kind of short at least on the models that I have.
