So, my question is... how subjective is rod sensitivity. Lately I've heard a lot of people say that rods like carrots stix, crucials, johhny morris elites, and other similar rods are as sensitive or more sensitive than GLXs. I personally don't own any GLXs, but I have fished with some and IMO they are in their own league when it comes to sensitivity. Is sensitivity that subjective that I can hold a GLX in my hand and think its way more sensitive than a carrot stix, while at the same time somebody else can hold a carrot stix and think that it is way more sensitive than a GLX?

I got the GLX and the IMX, can 't feel the difference so when I purchased more rod why I should shell the extra $100 ? I ended up purchasing IMXs.

I was just about to start a thread on this subject and I was going to call the the Subjectivity of Sensitivity? I really think that it falls on the angler. 100% subjective.

Heck, even an ugly stick is sensitive in my hands.

Sensitivity isn't subjective at all; only the opinions of it are.  A rod blank conducts vibrations like a wire conducts electricity.  Some blanks are more conductive than others....period.  However, some anglers hands are indeed more sensitive than others; some people have more nerve endings in their hands than others.  If you have sensitive hands (like mine), you can readily distinguish the difference in the sensitivity of rods.  Others can't distinguish between $150 rods and $300 rods, or the difference to them is minimal.

Any talk about the sensitivity of a graphite rod is basically pointless, if you don't use braided line...... as a 40 year old fiberglass rod with braid, is a WAY more sensitive setup, than an IM27 Helium Super Zippity Do Da rod, used in conjuuction with rubberband.... er... excuse me, monofilament.

Who... me opinionated ? ;-) Okay now, so you say, "But Fish, I do use braid....." Well cool then ! Stop worrying about the super sensitivity of the rod, and just pick a medium priced one, that feels good in your hands, and has some pretty wrapping that appeals to your eye / looks good with your reel ;-) LOL

Because in fact, > super sensitivity and lightness of a rod has a price < That price is brittleness ! Which you don't even want / need if your using real line anyway.... Doh.... their I go again.... I meant to say, braided line :-)

Peace,

Fish

Thank GOD, I am one of them. I can tell the difference between a $50 rod, but I can't really tell the difference between a $300 rod, and one at half the cost.

I won't lie, I didn't catch anything on it, I was just able to throw a GLX for about 30 minutes. Only thing that was different was:

1) slightly lighter than my previous rods, but with the upcoming purchase of a Kistler, the GLX is around the same weight as the Kistler.

2) Had "G Loomis GLX" written on it.

I've fished GL3's and IMX's, and felt they're great rods, only if they were $50 cheaper. Slightly overpriced, unless you buy used.

I'd pay $100-$120 for a GL3, and $180-$200 for an IMX. But, with Loomis, you also pay for the name.

I can't decide if I'm glad I can tell the difference or not!  On one end I save money....on the other end I'm not feeling quite as much.  I know which one is lighter on my wallet!  Oh well...

sadly, i can tell the difference.

have tried the carrots and the crucials, the kistler's and the avids, as well as the le's.

a lotta rods come close to the glx...none surpass it.

with or without a name.

I personally can tell drastic differences between different sensitivity levels within the same manufacturer.  For instance, the Avid's and Legend Tournaments are not my Legend Elite's and honestly (didn't think it was possible) but my Legend Extreme's are unlike anything else I have ever fished with and I have 12 Legend Elite's along.  Those 2 Extreme 7'6" rods paired with 2 Steez (103L) reels weigh less  than most reels alone do.  I also believe that overall weight has a lot to do with the sensitivity and not just the blank.

That's because, to my knowledge, none cost $375.

However the Steez rods are supposed to be FINE . rods..

There are a few out there that run $350+!

If you want to test for sensitivity, tell a friend to stand out in font of two rods. Hold a rod in each hand and put the tips on his throat. Then have him hum. You should be able to tell a difference between each rod. I dont know if this data is of any practical use though.

Im shopping for dropshot rods at the moment and cant decide if Im going overboard in buying GLX's instead of Crucials....I could buy a lot of tackle for the difference in price!

It all depends on whose hands the rod is in period ;)

My wife could not tell a bite any better with a Berkeley Cherrywood than she could with a GLX but the reason is not rod sensitivity. What was transmitted up the line down the rod to the hands was lost by the brain.

Now in my hands if that bass farts anywhere around my bait I'll know; I have owned close to every rod ever manufactured with the exception of Falcon, Carrot Stick, & Dobyns.

The most sensitive rod I have ever used is a Shimano Crucial; I have owned two of these rods one when they first came out and one I got about 2 years ago.

And yes I've used braided Micron, Dacron, Cotton, Spectra, & Micro-Dyneema.

Man that is so true Catt! I took my wife fishing a couple weeks back and she missed every bite! She was using one of my St. Croix worm rods and fluoro. I sat there and saw her line twitch more than once than take off for the weeds and she never felt a thing! It was one of those days where you could feel the tap tap when they took it too!

not a lot of rods more than $375 huh... ::)

Try a little price comparison on these megabass rods...

That's because I live in the USA. Those rods are made in Japan, Korea, wherever.

The idea of "importing" a rod...  :'(  That's just nuts. So are the people who pay $500+ for them. But hey, I can still catch fish on my $150 rod.  8-)

Oh, maybe because I don't make 10 figures, to be importing rods, reels and even LINE! Who makes the best Japenese hooks? I want some..  ;)  I'd bet they'd be $10 a hook. I'll take a pack of 25 please.

For crankbaits ?---> Katsuage.

First of all, nobody said you can't catch fish on a $150 rod, I know plenty of local guys who kick my @$$ in tournaments using $50 rods. Nobody here is telling you that you need to uprgrade all of your stuff and that you need to be fishing with $800 combos to catch fish. If somebody has the money and chooses to fish with expensive "Japanese" tackle then who are you to tell them that they're nuts? You say Steez rods are FINE (which they are) but you say that megabass rods are ridiculous to buy because they are imported from japan. Newsflash, steezs are built in japan too. Japanese hooks? Ever heard of gamakatsu? In case you were unaware, they don't cost $10 per hook. On another post you recomended saving money buying a crucial and to use the rest of the cash on lucky crafts. Do you know where the crucial you recomended is made? Japan. Guess where lucky crafts are made? Japan. I gurantee you that a ton of your fishing tackle is "imported" and you are just unaware and/or ignorant. Start checking the backs of packages, a lot of stuff is made in asia. If I limited my tackle selection to things made in the U.S., my tacklebag would be about the size of a lunchbox. Nobody here is looking down on you for fishing with $150 rods and nobody is insulting you so how about you show other people some respect instead of accusing them of being "nuts". You should stop being rude to peole and running your mouth about things you evidently know very little about. Oh, and by the way, I live in the U.S. too.

a perfect explanation.
