BassFishingMachine Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Hey I have a few packs of Powerbait Power Grubs 4inch. And I want to put them to use but don't know of many ways of using a grub other then fishing it as a spinnerbait trailer and using a white one on a white jig as a trailer. So I just wanted to know if any of you guys use grubs and how you fish them/rig them. Whats some good usage of grubs you know of? ps. I tryed texas rigging them with a bullet weight and fishing them weightless, but with minimum success, maybe I wasn't throwing them in the right situation though :-?. Quote
Super User Raul Posted December 19, 2007 Super User Posted December 19, 2007 You name the rigging technique you can imagine, I 've rigged them in all those ways and more. Quote
John J. Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I usually texas rig them with a 3/16 ounce or 1/4 ounce bullet weight (depending on depth of water) or weightless texas rig. You can also try them on a carolina rig or any other way. Experiment, you can't go wrong! 8-) Quote
TournyFish001 Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 on a jighead and crawl it on the bottom Quote
Other. Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 I put my grubs on a jig head. I either swim it on the bottom so it collides with chunk rocks, Hop it, or drag it. I only use grubs in rivers though going after small mouth. Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 20, 2007 Super User Posted December 20, 2007 ps. I tryed texas rigging them with a bullet weight and fishing them weightless, but with minimum success, maybe I wasn't throwing them in the right situation though I think it's much more likely that those grubs weren't in the right place at the right time, as opposed to the lack of success being due to the lure. 3125gauge Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 I use grubs on some homemade football head jigs with a spring bait keeper and I use them on a carolina rig. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 No doubt about it, if you are fishing for smallies, the curly tailed grub has to be in your arsenal. I've been using them for over 25 years now; up until some of the more sophisticated riggings came out, this was the no. 1 presentation for guaranteed success on smallies. The 3" size are the best for numbers, but the 4" get the bigger bass. Put them on a 1/8 - 1/4 oz. jig head, depending on the depth you're fishing. If you're using an on & off bottom retrieve, rig with the curly opposite the hook. If you are using a more horizontal retrieve, have the curly following the bend of the hook. Crawl, hop, slow troll, or jig; you will catch your share of smallies with curly tails. Right up there with tubes, jerkbaits and drop shotting. IMO. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 21, 2007 Super User Posted December 21, 2007 A 3" grub on a 1/8 oz round jig head slow rolled like a spinnerbait has been EXTREAMLY effective for me in cold water conditions. I reel it just fast enough to keep it "bumping" the bottom. Many times I have caught bass in high 30ish water temps using this method, while my buddies have gotten skunked. Quote
Under the Radar Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I've had good luck using them on a Dropshot or wiggle rig, on the edges of hydrilla. Also on a spot remover hopped along the bottom. Quote
detroit1 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 I also rig them mostly on a 1/8 oz ball jig, sometimes on a slider head if i Have to fish in the weeds. 3" to get a bite, 4" for a goodun'. Although, a 5" white Kalin's t-rigged is fun fished as a buzzbait. Quote
Guest avid Posted December 22, 2007 Posted December 22, 2007 Can't say i have had much luck on grubs except for smallies. They are #1 for smallies though. Quote
